Here are the contents/stuffed into a small camel back...... I will complete some descriptions later... It does not contain everything but its a good start. Jeff

Nice looking prep kit.  Been stocking up on a few things that don't go bad and storing it in the safe.  Guess it's time to make the sum of the parts "mobile".  Please do post a list of your contents and/or suggestions.  Better to be safe than sorry!

Wouldn't an "Obama gets re-elected" bag need a plane ticket to some other country?

Just as likely to be a Romney-gets-elected bag :smt003. Check out "Parable of the Sower" by Octavia Butler, they call it a grab-and-run pack. It is scary how many things in that fictional story have really happened. Makes you realize that the big uh-oh could be a slow progression instead of a flashpoint riot type of thing.

You have a nice kit there Jeff, very thorough. My earthquake kit is good, but I need to put a bag like yours together. The first aid stuff is particularly good to have! I agree with FFTC, I'm interested to see the list!

Nice one Jeff, you "tetris-ed" all that into that little camel back??!!!  I learned from a living legend here on the site about putting some good anti biotics in your pack.. The last thing you want is to die of an infection or impacted tooth or something silly because you didn't have anything to fight off the juju.  that, and several bricks of .22 and your ruger!!!!!

Looks more like a pellet pistol than a ruger ... makes good sense since all you would really need it for is hunting small game for dinner.  All that and no collapsible fishing rod?

  And smokes?

It'll be roll-yer-owns at that point :smt044 all the "boughten" smokes will be worth too much as trade items!

Not to pick on ya, Jeff...  it's just that when I consider all the stuff I'd need to take with me, I rapidly come to the conclusion that I'd much rather hole up at home where my stuff already is.  Think of all the stuff it takes to go camping, just for a weekend.  Food alone would be too much for me to carry!  And besides, anywhere I would imagine bugging out to would be someone else's territory.

Where would you guys go?  Angel Island would be a good choice, maybe, in a zombie apocalypse.  If one could get all their stuff there.

Nice, way to get all that stuff into that small bag!  I guess I need to do something similar, although it will be if Romney gets elected lol.  Seriously, tho.  History tells us that sh*t rarely hits the fan all that sudden-like.  Usually you would have at least a small amount of time to prep.  Still, good idea to have it all at the ready.

I agree. In most instances I would prefer to hang with my water tank and all my stuff until order is restored. BUT....

The "bug out" scenario from my fav apocalypse book referenced above is that most folks end up living in gated communities, and the police/fire depts are private and won't help without prepayment. Added to that is that an addictive drug makes people like to watch fire so there are pyros all over. The main character's house and community are torched since they aren't rich enough to afford fire protection, hence her reliance on her "bug out" pack.

I think taking off in a kayak is not a bad option, especially if it were a nice SIK touring boat that could handle surf and you had wheels to portage it. Either that or I'd just pirate a nice sailboat.

OK, sorry Jeff we'll try to keep it on topic.

I have a "go house"

Off grid solar.  Back up generator.  Private well with gravity flow.  Wildlife abounds.  Ammo and guns everywhere. Chickens in the yard.  Wife has every seed known to man.  Horses for when we run out of fuel.

Still worry about not having enough meds for the family though.

My plan is to toast the new prez whether Repulicrat or Demublican then go fishing to forget my woes for a few hours.  To that effect my bug out bag is my yak and fishing gear

I hate to be anti-survival because I really enjoy the subject but the chances of actually making it through the SHTF scenario are very limited. All possible survival routes have huge potentials for failure that most do not consider. For example how will your mental health respond to the death(s) of your friends and/or family members? How will you survive an infection like pneumonia when all the basic antibiotics that you prepped are gone or go bad because they got hot?  What happends when a few more families/bands arrive at your secluded spot in the forest and the food and water aren't enough? Could you kill your countrymen to survive if you were starving and they were the only ones with food?

All a bug out bag really needs is a valid passport to Australia, GB, NZ and/or France. Add that too some hard currency for each country and your likelihood of surviving goes way up over any type of survival gear. Gold can substitute for hard currency but is far more risky to carry. The bottom line is that when the lead starts to fly the safest most logical place to be is outside the country. The whole world may be in the same situation but if history is any indicator that won't be the case.
