You are a buzz kill meat hunter, :-)  but 100% correct... the answer is Ammo, lots and lots of ammo! what wont you do to protect your family? What wont to do to provide for them?  that's right, it will be anything goes...

I second that!!! My wife, daughter, son and I all have our own firearms and enough ammo to "get by". Of corse we can use them too! :smt002

Sorry kinda went on a rant on that one. :smt003

Didn't mean to kill the joy at all. I have thought quite a bit about this and have talked to many people over the years and that is just my end conclusion. Prepping isn't a bad thing at all because you simply never know. I actually like the survivalist mentality when it is the best route. There is certainly a plan for my family  in case of a short term lapse in government services for natural disaster type situations. Long term is really when the crazy problems would start. :smt003

iRoe, you're the man. Great thread, great discussion.

Ammo is king my friend...ammo is king. While I have as much ammo as a small South American Dictator, I also have a small copper still. Nothing like a little hooch in the face of a zombie apocalypse.

Police stop at my gate and ask to enter in order to access other properties :smt044 NO ONE OPENS MY GATE AND THE JEHOVAH's WITNESSES DON"T EVEN WALK THE SAME SIDE OF THE STREET. When the shit hits the fan... Come on up to Weimar :smt044 We've been ready for 20 yrs... Romney will be good for the country... He is good at delegation and follow up. He uses other people to get stuff done but keeps tabs on the work to guide them to the desired result. He will try to audit the fed gov... Remember what Obama has done at a huge price... Everyone is cashing in on the fed gov dime... It is Not sustainable. Eventually they will run out of our money and come looking for more Sorry about the political $.02 Now back to ZOMBIES :smt005 :smt044 :smt044
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Romney is a Mormon. Mormons are required by the church to prepare for self sufficiency and many have more stores, guns and ammo than all of you combined.

Just buy your supplies from the Mormons. No need to reinvent the wheel.

The more you know.

after the Loma Prieta earthquake in 89, Watsonville was cutoff from the world for a few days.  No power, no water and the store shelves were empty within a few hours.  Ammo was useless but food, water and camping equipment made for a rather pleasant camping trip in the backyard.  If that had carried on for a protracted period, ammo would be good.

time to go rent some Kevin Costner flicks; The Postman and Waterworld come to mind  :smt003

Yep ... the good old days of '89.  We hope for no repeat but we must face that it is a matter of time.

You have THE BEST plan yet.

Glad this got bumped back up again since I've been looking for the thread for a while...  again, Jeff ...  all good items & thanks for sharing!  Helped me to think about what I'd want or need to carry in the event of something.  On the hunt for a pellet pistol now for the simplicity and availability of ammo for small game/food.

Did you guys see "The Road"?? (Movie) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0898367/

Now, that'll put things in perspective :D
