Thanks for the info Mel. How about if I stick a sail on the Revo? Does that require a reg too?

Ernest - I am not sure.  I don't know all the fine print.

Not with me. I already paid sales tax.  I did attach a copy of my receipt from CCK since I bought it new.  I don't how you register if yours is used.

However, I see a trend to want to move away from the kayak standard set forth by the Inuet.
First the evolution of the SOT, than the Peddle Drive, and now the Sail.

As far as being true to our ancestors, mine were Polynesians not Inuet and they used sails and outriggers.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Both of my parents are Filipino.  Two native fish boats include the BANKA outrigger and the PARAW sailing trimarans.  Look familiar???  The Hobie Islands are nothing new to my culture.  I plan to register my AI.... eventually. :smt012

I got mine registered on Tues....the lady at the DMV had to look up everything. I hate it he idea of cf #s on the hull....so ugly. Part of me wants to just keep all the paperwork in the hatch and show it when I am stopped. I know that is dumb but I think the need to register it is equally stupid.

EWB I had the same thought, I am also going to register tomorrow but the thought of putting those stickers and numbers on my hull is like defacing the Mona-Lisa :smt003.

Unless you are being an ass or doing something dangerous I bet most CG wouldn't even think its a sailboat. Just say huh...this is a kayak. See here is my paddle

Alot of inflatables affix the cf and registration stickers to a plaque and just hang them over the side when they're using it.  You could just keep it in the hull till someone asks to see it.

My first encounter with the Paraw was back in 1995 during my first visit to island resort of Boracay.  They would troll for pelagics in the afternoon when the wind will picked up.  The next day the fishermen would put their catches - wahoo, tunas, marlin on carts or tie them on a bamboo pole and sell them to anybody.
During my last visit to Boracay the Paraws are used for sailing trips. They made more money on tourists I guess.
No rotomold plastic there mainly bamboo and local wood for materials.

Great! Now we have the AI registration internet police=more AI envy.  :smt006

On another, better note, look what you can do on an AI. I know I can't stand up with a monster like that on either of my kayaks. Congrats Jonesz. Way to break in the new ride bro!!! :worship

Wow Glynn got one too and I am not referring to the c bass.  :smt044 The AI is such a cool fishing and sailing platform. I wish the cost was lower so more people could afford them but the for what you get, the product is not over priced.

Here's some tips for the registration:
Breakdown of registration fees:
1. VSL Origination       $9
2. VSL Renewal         $10
3. ALT Fuel                 $10
Total $29.00

Key inputs on the app form:
1. Cost
2. Date first use

Purchase Cost will define your sales tax. This may cause you the most hurt/damage.

Date first use will define late penalty fees. Saved $59 on mine by asking to talk to the manager to explain my case. Told them I'm registering only because I want to use the sail this coming Regatta in SFO. Have basically use the AI as a kayak before pedaling and paddling, thus no need to register.

Also argued the ALT FUEL since I'm not using any fuel to which they replied that they cannot do anything about it since they just input "OTHER" in the computer and it spits automatically the $10.

Eventually, they told me it's up to me if I want to register it or not as I continue to give them the dumbfounded look. :smt009

Finally peace of mind. But I'm not placing any stickers in my AI.

I had a different train of conversation.  I explained to the clerk that's its a hybrid kayak that you can sail, paddle, pedal.
She did not know much about a Hobie AIs which I understand.  She then asked me, 51% of use will you be sailing it?
I said Yes.  So I registered it.
I am covering ass when and if the USCG, Harbor Master or whatever agency stops by.
