Well....you guys know how you sometimes find abalone in cabezon's bellies.

Lucked out yesterday and my dive buddy shot a big fat cab that had TWO nice sized Pinto abalone in the belly!  :smt007

Beautiful shells AND the meat was still attached and in great shape!   :smt003

I popped the meat out the shells, rinsed them off, gave them a quick sniff test and sliced them up and ate them!

So yummy!!!!

 :smt003 :smt004 :smt003

Harvesting pinto abalone is illegal, but you are allowed to collect empty/dead shells...since these shells were inside the cab I believe it is legal to keep them and use them (ie eat the meat I found inside of them).

If anybody knows different please let me know!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

:smt003 :smt004 :smt003

Dude, honestly though, the meat was super fresh, had no funky flavors and was digested enough that it was tender but not soft or mushy.

For sure. You'll have to fight Valentina for it though.   :smt002

Just kidding, I haven't given them to her yet, I'll put the "defect" one aside for you and you can get it when you come over on Saturday!
