Looking for a place to stay:

The Holiday Inn Express in McKinleyville, CA. It's the closest hotel to Trinidad. They are giving us special rates. Normal rates are $140/night. Our rate is $94/night! Their hotel includes a Deluxe Complimentary Breakfast, Indoor pool/Jacuzzi and plenty of safe parking for trailers with kayaks and gear on them. Just say you want the Rockfish Wars rate. I blocked a bunch of rooms. Locals can take advantage of this too. Check out the link:

Awards Party:

Also, Holiday Inn Express has was kind enough to donate their "Pacific Room" for the awards ceremony after the tournament. We will shoot to have the Awards party around 5:00pm. That will allow everyone to wash up and look fresh. There will be appetizers, beer and soda for everyone. That should wrap up around 7ish and then people are free to do what they want to due for Halloween weekend. Arcata has lots of restaurants, live music, etc

Are we still good to go on the camping on the state beach for free? Though $100 per night at a hotel is not a bad idea.

You can still camp out at Clam Beach, located between McKinleyville and Trinidad, but I had someone check it out and it looks like they are charging $15/night now. However, it is only $15/night. So, that still can be an option for people. It's too early to bank on it being a sunny day. We will keep you updated with the latest weather.

It's going to be a great time. Make sure you get your registration forms in early. Multiple people came in today and picked up entry forms. It may take a day or two from when you turn it in to the store to make it on this list.

Stormsurf will start giving us some good early info in terms of forecasts over the next few days.  This view shows Thursday evening, the 27th - building, but not looking like a storm...  If it stays under 10 feet we're in business.  By tomorrow night's forecasts we should have some strong indicators of tournee potentials in terms of swell height.

With the Tiki event I haven't had much chance to think of anything else

If this FAC weather holds tomorrow, I will be paddling out a few miles to 220-250ft of water in search of a barndoor halibut.  It was glassy late afternoon and into sunset.  I saw a couple other yakers out there near Flatiron.   This time I might bring the harpoon in case I get one over 50lbs.
