I would like to join the party at Limekiln, and I would also like to do some diving ( scuba or free) in addition to fishing.

I hope there is still room at this late date.

How many slots left?  It looks like I'll be in town that weekend, so I'm seriously considering this trip.

I am still planning on joining the fun, but am a little worried about the vehicle situation.  I can probably get 2 kayaks on my pick-up rack, so if anyone wants to carpool with me, they are welcome.  I live in Seaside (Monterey).  I have never been down there before, are there places to park outside the campground or something?

Please send me PM to confirm if you are committed to join. I have only 2 spots left. Hurry ...  :smt006

2 Camping sites can have 4 vehicles in total. Parking is my concern as well, specially dealing with Limekiln strict ranger. Carpool is highly recommended. Please hook up with your buddies to reduce # of vehicles.

There are parking lots available for additional vehicles. But, for those, walk back and forth to the camping sites would not be easily avoided.  :smt011

As for what gear to bring to Lime Kiln, I am far from the expert, but I went last year and I think we all caught our limits in about 20 minutes. The fishing was INSANE. I found the best thing to use was a diamond jig, basicly a five inch long chunk of metal with a treble hook on the end. Most people used those and rubber curly tail jigs, white worked best for me. The water is DEEP, like Moss, bring a lot of rope if anyone wants to crab. We caught fish so fast it was difficult to get lures to the bottom for ling cod because the rock cod would grab the lure as it fell to the bottom. Whole squid for ling bait might be a good idea, but bait was certainly not necessary. Spectra was great to have, because it let you feel every little nibble at 200+ feet deep, no stretch. The only unpleasant factor was the popping eyes and air bags as fish come up from that depth.

Hey Mooch! Thanks for the "welcome back".  Looking forward to fishing with you again. :smt001

What is the good size or weight for metal - 5oz, 6oz, 8oz? Thanks for the tip.

We are approaching to the trip. I am pretty excited about. We have excellent group of people participating. It is going to be a lot of fun. Here is another update on the trip, maybe it is last update, so keep this info with you.

1) All the spots are taken (full) unless there is people drop out from now to May-6.

2) Reservation info you need upon arrival
 Reserved under my name: Eric/YAMING
 Reservation #         1-4899264
 Reservation #    1-4899287
 Check in time:      2:00 pm
 Check out:  12:00 pm

 3) Cost is going to be $5/person to share the camping site cost.
Please bring small cash ($5, $10) with you, which will become handy for changes.

4) Parking is going to be tricky. Please carpool as much as possible. Everyone must be showing courtesy to Limekiln Rangers. We are going to have a pleasant trip!

A couple words of caution given many of those going are newies to this area. First, the rock fish season is not open right at Limekiln and north toward Lucia which is the usual place to fish from this launch site. The open season area begins just south of the big Limekiln rock. (Latitude 36 I think) Second, a landing net is required by regs. Sometimes yakers do not take one. You do not want to give ranger Garcia anything to work with. Third, the Limekiln launch is usually the most challanging of the launch sites in that area due to the steepness of the beach. It can have a nasty dumping break right at the beach. When its good it's very very good. When it's bad, well you get the picture. Be careful and enjoy!! Alternate launch sites are Mill Creek and Willow Creek to the south.

Hi, BobN. Thanks for the tips. Are there some good fishing spots around the south of Limekiln Rock?

Hi, Everyone.

Paul pointed out there are 2 tents & 2 vehicels at max per site. As you know, we have only 2 sites reserved. Some of us may have to share tents. However, it may not be comfortable. Big tents will be helpful. For some of us, Day-trip will not be good if drving distance is not a big problem.

Options are
1) Share tents if people don't mind.
2) Take day trips if driving distance is acceptable
3) Sleep some other possible places.

A back up option maybe the Kirk Creek campground. I am hoping to head down, but Kirk Creek is a first come first serve basis. Anyone getting down there friday morning want to get a site there to share? I won't be able to make it until late friday night. I figure you can always party with the crew at the main camp, but have a place to sleep.
