Just read another description defining a kayak as a type of canoe.

Maybe some long time kayakers will remember when kayak "purists" regarded the newfangled plastic sit-on-tops as purely a toy, not to be confused with a "real" kayak which can be rolled etc. :smt002
the SOTs can be rolled.
The original definition of a kayak has two key parts: ability to eskimo roll, and propelled by double-bladed paddle.

Since only about two of us paddle real kayaks maybe we should consider all human-powered watercraft.

Or draw the line at double-bladed paddles.  But honestly I'd love to see more SUP's fishing and competing.
The lines between the SUPs and kayaks are becoming less defined.

If I paddled up to you in a canoe and said," Hey, how do you like my new kayak?" :smt044  WTF would you say?

Mooch,
just my two cents on rule number 1

I would have to say kayak, or kayak hybrid only, this would eliminate float tubes, drift boats, certain hobies, paddle boards etc.

Okay, I'll bite.....which Hobies?

ps I thought the rain had stopped.....

If you allow drift boats would you be allowed to go out with a guide or someone else manning the oars?

Or in that case a guided tandem  :smt044

Tony, if you need a tandem, you can borrow ours anytime you want. :smt002

OK OK! I was just tryin to build a few FAF(family approval factor points, or whatever it is!) For the maybe 2 times this summer the little one will go out with us for maybe a couple of hours on some benign trout pond! :smt044

I didn't intend to introduce an unfair advantage into the AOTY or anything! :smt002

Anybody want to buy a 14" Old Town Guide :smt044

Tony, I have a WS pamlico tandem that is just awesome. Its 13.5 ft and real stable. Linelle and I use it in the sierras. fast too. Its yours anytime you want to use it. Buddy. The 2 year old can sit right between you guys. Thats a sit inside model. real comfy and dry.

Thanks for the offers to share guys!

A true kayaking brotherhood :smt003

I'd like to extend that same offer on my canoe, if anyone would like to try paddling it, it's pretty fun. :smt006

I've been eyeing tandem SOT's for awhile, the ones I've paddled in the tropics were FUN!

Guys, when is the last time we had a canoe report or an outrigger canoe report here?  Why we got to be looking for exceptions to make?  Does it really make any difference?
