That's why I came to the conclusion that double-bladed paddles is what makes a kayak a kayak...  canoes can have flotation, too, bulkheads under the seats.

Far as I can tell it is our paddles that set us apart from all other watercraft.

Except you can paddle a canoe with a kayak paddle

This is a community based competition.  Break the implied rules of the community and risk endless ridicule.  You guys know what you can enter.  If it's not clear, send me a PM and I'll straighten you out.  But if you send me something stupid, I'm posting it up for endless ridicule by the community.

Does it need to be any clearer than that?

-Allen

P.S.  I'm posting this with a mischievous smile on my face so don't read into it too much.

If someone can make the top ten AOTY'ers sweat by entering fish caught on one of those contraptions they have my respect.

I guess here is the real difference in Kayaks vs Canoes  :smt044

 :smt004

Ok, not really a fair comparison  :smt002

looks like defining what a kayak is  isnt that easy.
almost as difficult as the question of what makes someone a "kayaker".
a roll? a bomb proof brace?
with the way paddlecraft are evolving and cross polinating it will be tougher to throw labels on the boats that we fish from.
what im really not clear on is whats wrong with having this discussion.
seems healthy enough and atleast folks are discussing boats.
interesting thread

sometimes I like to use my rafting paddle with the SOT to force myself to sharpen some skills.
am I still kayaking?

They should also disqualify yaks that sink. It says human powered, not tidal powered.  :smt044
