Hoping to fish with the Mrs. and 2yr. old daughter from our canoe(non-motor powered) this season.
If by chance I luck into any fish would they be OK to enter into the AOTY running?
Thanks,
novofish

This is probably a difficult question since there could be a case for many options such as float tube, boat with oars only, standup board ( which is probably the only one that should also be allowed) or a pontoon boat. I would have to say no since this is a kayak fishing site and should be taken by kayak only.
just my opinion.

Actually, it is a good question.  Some products today are marketed as kayaks, but are actually more like canoes.  The Native Hybrid's come to mind ... http://www.nativewatercraft.com/overview_hybrid.cfm

I'll let the AOTY committee chew on this and keep you posted.

human harnessed powers unite!!   drift boats are oared and if you can fish & tack w/a sail = Go For It!!

Oooh, good point. I think the line should be drawn somewhere . . . but exactly where could be tricky. Any human-powered craft is too broad, IMO.
After all, do we really want more of this on AOTY?

Mooch,
just my two cents on rule number 1

I would have to say kayak, or kayak hybrid only, this would eliminate float tubes, drift boats, certain hobies, paddle boards etc.  Real easy to tell from the photos as to allow or disallow

To further complicate the matter I've taken to using the double bladed kayak paddle to power the barge(canoe) noticing that it tracks straight without the need to j-stroke at all!

I'm just sayin' :smt003

If you allow drift boats would you be allowed to go out with a guide or someone else manning the oars?

Maybe some long time kayakers will remember when kayak "purists" regarded the newfangled plastic sit-on-tops as purely a toy, not to be confused with a "real" kayak which can be rolled etc. :smt002

The original definition of a kayak has two key parts: ability to eskimo roll, and propelled by double-bladed paddle.

Since only about two of us paddle real kayaks maybe we should consider all human-powered watercraft.

Or draw the line at double-bladed paddles.  But honestly I'd love to see more SUP's fishing and competing.

Wind power should be off limits, imo.

If you include drift boats then lets include shore angling too.  Everything except engine powered water craft.

Also add my favorite rule: if you don't post the hook-up then the fish doesn't count.
