Eric, I'll wait until his next doctors visit to make a choice. Either way I'm sure we'll be ok with it. Thanks.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

Eric, The pot luck on Saturday is a great idea! We might as well have the awards presentation at the same time on Saturday too as I am going to win it this year :smt003

I love the confidence!   :smt001  I'm taking myself completely out of the prizes, Allen, so I'll be aiming to beat you just for bragging rights.   :smt004

Maybe we can do abalone and speared fish at the taco shack at saturday potluck. Then do fish tacos after the tourney on sunday. Either way, the shack will be up and running all weekend. We will be staffed by all ncka volunteers, serving free food generously donated by the sea and the brothers of ncka. :smt001 :smt001

Tad, thanks for the calculations  :smt002  Ya know, times are tough for a lot of folks I know right now.  That and the cost of gas going up so fricken fast and early in the year it's hurting a lot of wallets pretty bad.  Then of course its also kind of my first real vacation of the year, and really like to hang with the rest of the NCKA crew.  But if I can do that during the day, and stay only a few minutes away it's something I've got to consider too.

Yeah, the FS/BLM campgrounds are looking better and better.

Since I have already paid for 1 night/deposit,
I'm thinking maybe staying Fri. night at the FS/BLM CG,
Sat. night at Jacks "Hilton Tent Resort" :smt044 so if'n I drink too much I don't have to drive up the hill.
Sun. night back to the FS/BLM CG.

Also considering arriving Sat. since the RF season doesn't open until Sun., and staying Mon. night to get 1 more day of RF in. :smt002

Decisions - decisions.

If the season opens May 15 up there and the seas are rough, I'll bring a icechest full of rockfish for Friday & Saturday's taco stand. Because the season opens May 1 down here so we'll have a chance to stock-up. Although, it does seem counter-intuitive to bring fish to Shelter Cove lol. Again, this is only a backup plan in case the ocean is rough.

Chadrock - sorry I got busy and almost spaced your message back there!   :smt003  I believe the numbers that were being given out were in the group area, but I'm not sure if they have a method.  If that's the case then hopefully they'll keep issuing sites within the group area and it'll become apparent whether all of this is an issue.

called the campground the other day to reserve a spot...new girl...nice but didn't quite know what's what...so I booked a full hookup site #49...don't think any discount was included for being with ncka...no worries...I'm there to fish/drink/fish/drink/fish...oh didn't i mention drink...HA!!!

downloaded the regs...went to get a money order @ USPS they wouldn't break a hundy...  :smt009 so check will be in the mail mon....
It's all about Today!!! Because who knows what tomorrow will bring... so Better get OTW n GetSome

I am in for Monday Tad!  I figure we will head back over the hill Monday evening, so it leaves the morning to fish and drop some crab pots.

I may have to check out the BLM/Forest Service campground on the way down the hill.  It might be a nice option when I head over there by myself or with friends, I wasn't aware there was one.  My "camp" is always contained in my truck, so it isn't like I would be leaving anything unattended.

Jack seems like a good guy, but got very tiresome last year (and the year before) hounding folks wither they had payed or not.  That would be a hard way to go through life thinking everyone is there to cheat you.

Too bad the tide comes in so much, or you could just camp out on the beach!  That would be sweet (if it is legal).

I am getting really excited!  I want to spend some time if I head out for Salmon saturday, marking pinnacles and reefs on my gps.  I am really thinking of scuba diving that reef out in front of the Hotel.  I would love to see how many fish are really sitting out there.  What would be really neat is watch someone fishing, and see how many fish just turn their noses at our baits!  I really need to get some blood on my Omer speargun as well!

Anybody buy new gear for the trip?  I have the new kayak which will hopefully give me better range, and speed (it is all about hole shot baby :smt003).

Matt

I like your planning and anticipation of the event, Matt.*  I agree about Jack, and if he feels that he can control it better the way he's laid it out, then I hope so too.  And, Tad, I thnk there'll be plenty of people around for Monday fishing - including me.  Can't wait!   :smt001

*I've considered that underwater tackle-watching scenario and how dangerous it would be for a diver that got hooked!  You struggle, and the guy on the yak above sets the hook deeper and fights you!  So any kind of scenario like that would be under some tight controls.  Video of a jig and shrimpfly working along a reef and enticing a fish would be very cool indeed.   :smt001

Pending entrants (29):

check's in the mail. Not sure where I'm staying yet - probably in the designated NCKA corral.

I think Jack has greedy tendencies but I also think he actually is trying to be accommodating. Whether his plans work out in our favor or not is to be seen.
Can't really blame him for trying to make a buck, though. Even if the rates are a little steep, it's still a campground - doubt anyone's gettin' rich off it.

I think it would be very interesting, but honestly doubt I would do it just for the reasons you mentioned.  Tad would think he won the tourney...until he reeled me in  :smt009!  It is just one of those back of the mind things saying, "wonder how many fish are looking at my lure".  John Beath has a video filming halibut and salmon, amazing the number of fish that short strike, the ones you would never know were there.  One day I may get one of those little fish cameras, just to fix my curiosity.  I would rather film while diving though!  I hope the visibility is good this year to get some good abalone footage!

Spent a few hours in the shop pouring baits, casting lead, and powder coating jig heads.  Fun to be doing some things again, I really need to start making more time for it.  I can't wait to see the new lures Domenic and EWB have this year, and talk shop.

Cajun, I will send you a PM about the lures and gaff.

I have a good feeling about the North Valley Slayers this year!  Tad, are you up for the trip out to the whistle and bell?  It is time to go where large fish thrive buddy!  Hopefully those fish are 4ft and smaller though...... :smt044
