Saturday, Sunday...no difference to me!  I am staying in Shelter Cove till Monday!  I have a spear gun that will make its debut on Saturday while Ab hunting.

I am holding better chances of winning the tourney.  After Saturdays pot luck, the A hulls will all have hangovers and be yaking off their yaks.  Chumming is good I hear, so follow an A hull.  Just wash down your kayak and gear well afterward..... :smt005

I've spoken to or heard back from 28 of the 30 participants, and this thing's going down NO MATTER WHAT.   :smt001

I'll get a confirmation on the DFG opening day and let everyone know very quickly after I do.

I'll be meeting with the owner of the campground within a couple of weeks, and things should be clearer then in terms of what he wants from the group and how things will be structured.  As far as I know though, everyone is booking sites already.  If you can call back for now and work with them to secure your site that'd be great.  Thanks.   :smt001

I just recieved my confirmation card from the campground for Fri.,Sat.,Sun, nights but it didn't list a site number. :smt013

So I called over there to see what site number I had,
and the guy I spoke to (Jack I think?) told me they were going to rope off a big section of the CG for the kayak anglers and as we arrived we could choose a site.

This is cool with me I guess, as long as I don't set up camp on a site reserved for one of you guys that have a site number already :smt012

He also mentioned he would be talking to LoletaEric soon
and he was thinking of setting up an area to rinse yaks/wetsuits
and maybe a couple porta potties in our section of the CG.
I'm sure we will learn more after Eric meets with him :smt002

I am getting stoked for my third  GS :smt003

If Jack has a good plan to maintain organization for the campers in our group I'm counting on it coming with some nice concessions like what was mentioned above, but I'm just the messenger on this - actually Cajun/Greg has volunteered to help work with Jack and the campground, so hopefully we'll get Jack's terms soon and Greg can lay out what the expectations are.  One thing that occurs to me is that not all those coming to the tournament will want to stay in the same section of the campground, so I'll address that with Jack.  I wish he'd just run it like we were all separate from each other - what's the difference between us being there vs just having a full house?...

I may have answered my own quetion here in bold italics below...

GS5 Camping Issues

Today I met with Jack Sanford, the owner of the campground.  He laid out the following ground rules for camping at GS:

-   He is setting aside a large area in the north-northeast section of the campground for us
-   Camping for people in that area is $20 per person per night
-   RV’s are separate and will pay the usual fees and have space outside of the group area
-   Families or others who wish to camp outside of the group area will pay normal fees and have a standard site – a standard site is $33/night for two people/1 vehicle – extra people and vehicles have extra fees associated
-   It’s very important that anyone in an RV or who pays for a site outside of the group area NOT share their site
-   Site sharing is what led to the problems last year because Jack felt that, with a large group milling about in what amounted to a common area, he was unable to track whether people were there without paying
-   Peer pressure will be vital to our efforts – if you know of someone who hasn’t paid, tell them to go pay their way!
-   Water is very expensive at Shelter Cove – don’t waste it!
-   NEVER clean fish in the campground – there are fish cleaning facilities above the launch
-   Do NOT drive through the campground if you’re not staying there – visitors can pull in and park on the left just past the host (even Eric will follow this!)
-   Do NOT check in really late – just go ahead and camp in the group area and go pay your fees in the morning
-   Jack is providing a place for cleaning wetsuits and boats – use that area and no other areas for those tasks
-   Jack is providing two porta-potties in addition to the regular facilities – keep them clean!
-   Check out at check-out time (NOON) or expect to pay extra
-   If you want cheap camping then drive up the hill to the forest service campgrounds about 10-15 minutes away

Next year tournament registration may require proof of camping or hotel registration, and we may not have a common area with free firewood, extra bathrooms and a dedicated gear cleaning area...

$20/night/person may sound steep, but he's going out of his way to provide extra amenities for us, and it's way cheaper than a room...

Look at it like this - if two people share a site for $33/night they can have 1 vehicle, and they need to stay within the borders of one campsite (they're not that big).  That's $16.50 each per night, and there may be an additional charge to have a boat in your site.  So for $3.50 more per night we are being offered much more space, no hassles about number of vehicles or boats, and Jack foots the bill for the porta-potties ($600) and firewood.

I'm not thrilled with this, but it's what we have to work with.

Bottom line is that I don't call the shots for the owner of the campground, so please follow the rules!  Thanks   :smt001
