Is this change to AOTY a done deal or will be there a chance to discuss and vote on it?

There's potentially some room for minor tweaking, but it's a done deal.  If you don't like it, don't play.  If you already paid for 2010 thinking that it was still the old format and want a refund, I'm sure Bill can do that for you.

says the guy with the 49" catfish growing in his pond  :smt044  i think discussion should be warranted whenever you have such a significant change in the rules...

Yes if you already paid and don't like the new rules just let me know and I will refund your entry fee. They are not open to discussion.

Thanks to Brian for knocking this out, without him AOTY does not exist. He puts in a ton of work behind the scenes, if you happen to see him buy him many beers!

Brian correct me but I think Sanddabs are included in the Flounder group right?

Why not?   Check the definition:

Thesaurus:

Noun 1. sand dab - the lean flesh of a small flounder from the Pacific coast of North America
"Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain."

I like the new format. Might take some getting used to, but it presents a different type of challenge.
People will still find things to complain about though...like "can we change surf perch to ocean perch?" Seriously, we should lump all ocean-going perch into one category if we're really gonna have a "perch" category.

The thinking behind these changes was to make it more open for more people to participate AND contend without having to go to insane lengths. There are 20 fish now but only your 10 best scoring fish count towards your ranking. Can't catch salmon? No problem you can target another species. Freshwater not your game? You can get pretty close to filling your card all in the salt (assuming a ocean salmon season) same with you sweat water guys you can fill your card all in freshwater.

We think this will be a lot more fun and enable more people to contend, while still making it special to be AOTY champion.
