I'm ok with either car camp or boat in camp.  However, my truck can carry a whole lot more fire wood than my outback can.  I suspect firewood will be a much needed commodity.
I'm ready to add a hash mark to my "Storm trooper" badge

if you have a big tarp and some rope - bring it just in case it rains and we need to set up a tarp city (lesson learned from Fish n chill - Lake Del Valle)

other things to bring -

an ax - we can chop downed trees for firewood
drinking water (I don't recall seeing a faucet)
toilet paper
portable lawn chair
propane lanterns
head lamps
rain boots

I'll be there early Fri as well unless the river is fishing well then I'll hit that first then hit the lake at 2 or so.
I'll post updates on the fishing as we get close.

freezing cold... I should be used to it by now. I'm thinking I'm in but it'll depend on the kiddies. I may have to trade weekends with my X. Meaning, I'll have my boys that weekend and I don't think I want to subject them to those kind of conditions.  hopefully, it'll work out and we can get out there and freeze our asses off with the best of you.

Craig- is there anything you don't boil?

Mike- keep us posted on the steelie action... I'm still looking to end my draught.

Moochie- you wouldn't by chance have an extra minnow bucket that you transported some dads in from tahoe last summer would you???

Yesterday I hit the army surplus store and snagged a wool sweater and blanket.

I've done quite a bit of camping in freezing weather and snow, rain, and the difference between having a good time and a miserable time is being prepared.

I highly recommend a pad or inflatable mattress AND a blanket to make a layer between you and the ground.  Plus a good sleeping bag and an extra blanket or two over the top.

Thermal underwear, sweat pants, and wool socks under your waders or tempest pants will keep you toasty warm OTW, and a wool sweater and thermal underwear under a DRY or splash top is the way I'm rollin.

Just remember if you get wet out there hypothermia is a very real possibility if you don't get to a fire within a few minutes.

I think we all know that, right?  Just a friendly reminder/public safety announcement..

Mike-I have your lantern :smt006
I know the boat in is hard-core-cool, but there would be more girls to give you a send off if it was at the drive-in site...I know it doesnt sound very bromantic but some girls might want a hug or two also :smt002

Okay, I'm in. If Moochie can do it, so can I!
I'll most likely be rowing the driftboat in as there is no way I can pack the stuff I need for a good night's sleep in my yak. I also want enough wood for a good fire. And 5 gallons of water too.
A good silver tarp and plenty of rope makes for much needed shelter from rain and such. Hey, it might be dry and sunny. You never know...
I'm bringing my Baby, (compound bow), and might try for a hunt/hike while there.
Is this the campground just before Falcon's nest?
I hope the lake level rises so our hike from boat to camp is shorter and not as muddy!
Probably muddy anyhows.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.
