I'm really up against the wall on this one.
There is a major fire in the area which has called for an evacuation of the area.
My hopes and prayers go out to all affected and hope all ends well.
With this in mind I feel it is necessary to stay out of that area for this weekend and let the emergency crews and land owners do what they must.
The Question at hand is should we Re-Locate to another spot (S.C. Harbor or MBK?) or should we reschedule for another date in the near future?
Please respond ASAP so we can make the proper arrangements.
Thanks,
Eric

I know a lot of people are planning on goign to this but I believe we should change the date. Too many issues with the fires to worry about the derby. At least you won't have to worry about fishing with a hangover after the first derby :beer3

i'd rather fish since i've got the trip planned already and will likely not get another shot if we reschedule, but i will let the masses do the talking.  i may have to see if mbk will let me cancel as well, i dont really feel like driving out there for just the one trip

From my own selfish perspective  :smt010  I'd rather change the location. Already arranged to be gone, rented the camp site, etc, etc... and couldn't be certain at all that I could make the alternative date.

That said, if the fires are screwing up some of our participants maybe it would be best to reschedule.

If the vote calls for a Re-Schedule I will still be fishing in the area on Sunday and would be glad to hook up with any others who may not be able to reschedule.

Parking?, permits? and facilities? Unless we can answer those questions in time, it might be best to reschedule.

Can't it be both?
Relocate the event for Sunday (to SC Harbor or MBK) and reschedule another event for Davenport.
That way, the people who have invested (personal time and financially) can still fish together on Sunday. And people who want to fish an event at Davenport in the near future will get their wishes too.

Of course, the main obstacle is the fact that Eric and FW have already planned a full schedule of events this season; hard to squeeze in another event (and all the work that goes into it) on a moment's notice. And I guess "obstacle" isn't the right word here because it carries a negative connotation, whereas the FW fishing events are a fantastic idea and we fully appreciate the work that Eric puts into these things.

Not making light of the fire, those evacuating or fighting it.  Been there, know it sucks.

Yakhopper, it must be a beotch to plan something so far ahead and get it derailed like this.  I would go with whatever you decide.  But I gotta tell you on 9/11 we had a bunch of wedding flowers being shipped all over by air.  When they closed down all the airports, we had to call a bunch of dissappointed brides telling them the flowers were stuck in airport X.  Most understood.  But one was really pissed.  I still remember her line.  "you should have a contingency plan for this."    A contingency plan for an air attack against the US, a shutdown of the entire airspace?

So, whatever you decide is fine.  Just next time, control the fire gods :smt003

I hate to vote for rescheduling, but the way I see it we have shark sightings closing beaches, a big swell forecast, and a big wildfire in the area that not only will make it smokey and unpleasant, it's also preventing some folks from being able to make it. Taken together it seems like we should either reschedule or cancel rather than try to force it.

But, I'll still be fishing MBK, and if we move it instead of reschedule I'll probably still show up Sunday.  :smt006

Well I have been thinking and trying to do what is best for the group and this is what I have come up with.
Some of us will be having issues with the fire and may not be in the best position to fish this weekend.
Also many have planed their time and WAF around attending the TWO events this weekend.
With this in mind I have decided to Re-Locate the event for this weekend to S.C. Harbor and also schedule an event for the Davenport area on Aug. 30th.
I know this will be a lot of extra effort for some, but I believe those in the fire zone could use a reason to get on the water when it's all cleared. and I will be in the area this weekend anyways so why not do both  :smt003
See you in Santa Cruz and Davenport
