At 55 I still can do this. My fishing wasnt great. I released about 20 gophers and caught 2 nice blacks. Others fared better. The ocean was calm and the challenge was extreme.

Congratulations to you who made it. Craig, that's the shortest fishing report you have made to date...you gotta be tired.

Way to tough it out fellas.
Still waiting for that pic of a 10'' ab.
For those of you who have now done both, which is harder; Elk or Horseshoe?

I'm glad you guys survived. I was worrying that somebody was going to have a heart attack. Too bad the fishing was off... I'm glad for one thing though... I didn't have to hump anything up that CLIFF. If anybody is wondering... Horseshit Cove is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder than Elk.

Wow, what a great report, great job getting down that cliff.  That is as flat ass calm as it gets, must have been great being on top of that!  From those of us that had to work, thanks for posting the great pics!

Great teamwork everyone!  Hope I can join your guys on next trip if Horseshoe still open later this year.  Thanks for the report and pictures Craig.

Thanks to Ravensblack for dreaming up this hardcore hookup. Ravensblack, Rockhopper, M2, M2's brother/not sure how to spell your name bro, Skunked, Tigerfish, Skyboy, and myself had a great time today. Freddie, Potato River, and their friend from Canada, sorry forgot your name dude, launched from Stump and paddled up. The cliff is as steep as it gets before it would be unsafe to attempt to carry down a SOT kayak. The steeper lower part of the trail going down is mostly loose rocks and soil. In addition the trail from hwy 1 to the top of the cliff isn't a piece of cake either with 6ft+ tall bushes requiring you to lift your kayak over your head for a maze like section right at the trailhead and several narrow cart flipping sections in the middle. I am soooo glad I only kept a half limit of rockfish to go with my 3 abs. It was hard enough climbing back up with all the weight I had. Arrived at the cove at 5:30am and left at 5:30pm. More pics too come. Tigerfish had the hot stick today but we all caught fish. There was a CHP officer waving cars thru and both lanes were open at the road construction by 6pm. Skunked, did you lose anything today? jim

P.S. If you guys appreciate this report and want a chance to fish and dive this area in the future please come to the MLPA meeting this week on wednesday August 5th, 2009. The reason Craig created this hookup was to draw some attention to the fact that this is one of the areas we are in jeopardy of losing. Time to step up men.

I'm f***ing wrecked, too...so here's the short version.

Meeting up, the trail down and the launch.

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...
