Fished northern Big Sur with a great group of guys on Saturday.
The bite was slow but we managed to get a few keepers and had an epic shorelunch afterwards. Thanks you Andy!  :smt008 :smt007 :smt044
We had 8 guys out there so we started a $5 jackpot pool. I was lucky enough to catch a decent red to win.  :smt002 But it was close! Like 1/4 inch close!
I caught most of my fish on squid-tipped scampi on 3oz leadhead. But also got a few on iron, and the teaser above my lure too.
The fishing might have been subpar but the highlight was the grub afterwards. We had deep-fried chicken, wild boar, and fresh fish tacos! We tried a gopher, a black, and a treefish to compare flavors. My favorite was stoggie's treefish. I had a great time guys. Thanks!
Still a little sore from the whole carrying-kayak-to-cliff and lowering-down+up-the-cliff deal......I think porky got some pics of that ordeal.

Here's some pics for your viewing pleasure. I purposefully didn't take any pics of gophers out of pure spite.

Olive rockfish:

Chubby black:

A big black and yellow rockfish that Andy caught. Check out its bright orange pectoral fin!

And my winning fish--a shiny red verm. It was the same color as my new kayak!

Backseat drivers...sheesh! Nice assortment of fish:

It was a great day as usual. With these guys fun is mandatory.

The fishing was good action but mostly small gophers. I probably c&r about a dozen.
One didn't want to swimso i brought him back to lunch. I did pick up a nice treefish. My first, had never seen one before. He was nice size so he went into andy's fryer as well.

It was a nice adventure what with roping 8 kayaks and gear down and back up the cliff.

Thanks everyone, good times.....

Stoggie

Nice score guys.Sounds like a fun commando session.

Seems like verms caught in the kelp are a deeper/darker red than the deep reef models.Adaptive coloration perhaps?

Sorry to be late with the pics guys... Took my old moms down to the beach today..

Anyway, WOW, what a killer fishing adventure..... I had a great time, slept like a baby last night!

First off all the guys I met, fished with and did the fish fry with are all, great people. Very welcoming crew.

The spot.. UNREAL, open ocean... It was a little slow, but i took home a limit of gophers for dinner, and grand it was!! Andy has inspired me with his cooking. The food was simply great. Thanks for the beers and memories. Saw a few whales too while were out there, tons of huge jellyfish too, very rustic area, very cool..

Here the pics guys, gonna post alot so you can grab them..

Great Trip.

Nice pics porky

nice to be able to go to places like this with friends like that an hour from home.
I feel pretty lucky to get these experiences. I had a great time and want more of this, it's like a drug.

Lets keep it  going.....where next?

Had A great time with some of the best crew you could hang with!!! I have no pics but the only ones in my head. Took A couple of cousins of mine that have nevered kayaked before. Both caught A few fish. This trip is not for the weak...... As it proved by filtering  my cousins off the water!! The cooking is always good in the outdoors especially when its on the waters edge! This trip proved that teamwork is the key! Cant wait to do it all again  .....Andy
