Look at the beautiful mystic south coast of Big Sur... I spent 4 years exploring this remote and treacherous section of coast, guiding trips for dirt cheap, spending the summer at my friends ranch above Lucia, learning the ups and downs, catching my first norcal bonito out of PV last year (12 lbs!),  and after awhile the cat got out of the bag... So I decided to write an article so that the safety issues were properly noted before someone got blown out to sea-and for a bit of guide service promo. I had my own issues with seeing the secret spot blown up (some of ya may remember). Now everytime I go down there I run into a crew of fishermen pulling their boats up and down the cliffside... Last summer I found tons of fishing garbage down there as well. I've even noticed a drop in the quality and size of lings and reds at that spot compared with 9 years ago. My homie who lives down there says there are people going out of that spot all the time now... If everyone who fishes there takes a limit, and highgrades 30 or 40 more fish with ripped lips and distended swim bladders, soon enuff that spots going to become like any of the spots in Monterey or Carmel, especially now that slimekilns closed. After all that I'm a bit hesitant to disclose my secrets.

I see the same thing when i go down there as well .Even on the weekdays i see a crew of fishermen with huge loads of fish.I see all the posts of the slaughters on this forum. We all know there is fish down there,do they really eat all that fish.I used to do that but learned my lesson really quick. But its a free country and we can all do what we want.I think the other guys will learn sometime also.Go ahead and call me a hater but he is right

Most of the guys fishing the South Coast do not post reports, out of respect for the fishery, and because they share similar concerns about overfishing and overexposure. In general, only the opening wknd and big mega-hookups get reported. Otherwise, it's kinda on the downlow.
We aren't the first people to use these areas. And we definitely won't be the last. But we do need to use discretion when using these areas, and when choosing to share information about these spots.

I totally agree with you guys about keeping secrets and not blowing up spots, BUT if that's your intent then don't bother coming here and posting about it. You wanna keep a secret, but you come here and post where thousands of people will see it and then say - Nah, Nah, nah, I caught this fish and I'm not gonna tell you where.

Honest question here and I'd like someone to answer it - WHAT'S THE F***ING POINT?

:smt010 The point is.... to add intrigue to our water. To let people know that there are fish up here other than rockfish and halis... that the ghosts do exist... To give fellow yakfishers goals and ambitions that have only been written about to this point... Show them there out there and let them go on their own journey of piscean discovery instead of providing the pirates map to the secret spot. To add a bit of mystery to this great ocean we all love to adventure on!...

even those who may have been a bit disgruntled, or jealous, of my big fish. Its alright Steve and rockhopper, you'll both catch one someday. Just do your research and put in your time. Still don't understand the hatin, but thats alright. I

has nothing to do with wanting (or not) to catch one...has everything to do with the "report"...if you don't want a "secret" spot known-- don't post. Simple as that.

Eh, I was kinda put off at first too, but then I thought about it...

& realized I've been guilty of the same thing (but either no one read those reports, or no one noticed that when they fished a certain known spot I named they didn't catch anything).

& if I'd mentioned a place by name, then found a bunch of litter there the next time I went, I'd stop posting detailed reports too. We all do our own thing in our own way.

So, it's all good with me, details or no.
I'd rather see a pic that represents a fun trip than nothing at all.

I'll stick to the simple stuff:

Nice fish Brendan!
Nice to know you're still around & gettin out there.
I'm heading to SoCal for an islands trip in a few weeks (non-yak) & I hope to get one of my own WSB down there.

This is a simple debate, but some of you need to stop being internet tough guys. I highly doubt if we were all standing around having this conversation any of you would be talking this "cry-baby", "bitch", and "Get a life" stuff.
