Dude, are you serious? All reports should be like his? He could have said it was caught in Santa Cruz, or Monterey, or Big Sur. noone asked for GPS coordinates, genius. He could have posted this "report" in the Fish Pics section and I wouldn't have said a damn thing.

And I know who he is and his history. I've been here since '03. That doesn't make it any better. I would've said the exact same thing to Mooch or Sean if they posted the "report" here.

He felt the need to post that here to get a nice pat on the back and a way to go or two. So I gave him a pat on the back.

PS - The only one "crying" in this thread is you, PJ. Nobody personally attacked Brendan.

2nd the feeling...I am not bashing but as a long time member a few relevant data points (as RH mentioned) would add to the post? Even if we had ALL the data (including GPS coords). You still need to actually catch the fish. Last time I checked WSB ain't exactly a piece of cake to catch.

Is this any different then the dudes who posted the 30 surf perch with the black bars over their eyes? Seems like we ALL gave that dude some friendly grief.

You've got to be f'ing kidding me?
Brendan's been around a little while sure, but a number of the folks callin' this "report" simply a brag, have been around as long and a lot longer, and done just as much legwork (though likely not in the same areas).

no one was asking for coordinates, or the spot...

I think we're all just cranky because it rained on the opening weekend for rockfish and salmon season was closed again. We'll all be in a better mood when we can get out on the water. Looks like a collective case of "aquatic blue balls".

Forecast for next weekend on Monterey Bay is sunny with temps in the 60's. See y'all out there!

I have seen compa carefully dissect true but 'slim' reports to get good info from reports that others complained had no useful info. From him I learned that that ANY report is useful to somebody as long as it is not willfully misleading.

Like if you took this one report and removed the pic, the title says ghost which means WSB.. There is no deliberate mis-information there, just a lack of direct information. but there is still info as abking points out too.

So it does not belong in the fish pics section, it is a report and belongs in the reports section.

ANY report is a gift of some info that may help others out, pics or no pics, location or no location..

Complaining that you weren't given enough info... is complaining, whining, whinging, bitching, crying, etc. there is no other word for it... sorry. PJ nailed it.

Please, be manly, take the info you can glean from a report, and be grateful and go catch your own. When you do, I hope you post a report! and you can choose what to say, but remember that your report may ruin somebody else's spot as well as help new people to it... its a delicate balance at times.

Hope that makes sense to the complainers... it should be obvious to anybody with decent manners and sense..

rockhopper, there is a smiley on that first one at least.. and that is because just because someone is a hypocrite... doesn't make them wrong!  :smt044

When you are a parent and telling your boys not to do something you have done many times... you will know what I mean!

do as I say... not as I do,  :smt008.

My position is that if somebody posts a report with no lies in it, smile and say thank you, it's the right thing to do.

If you want to debate that position, please, be my guest..

OK, you guys are right. GROUP HUG.

I was even going to come in here earlier and apologize for being such a smart ass in my first post. I stick to what I posted, but definitely could have posted it differently. Then I see all the ITGs coming out and calling people crybabies and bitches. It's a small world made smaller by gatherings, and I'd hate to see drama at an NCKA event because somebody doesn't take being called a bitch lightly.

do as I say... not as I do

Hey John, I hope, rather, it's "do as I say, not as I have done"  :smt002

My boys always challenged me with, "What did you do?" to which I'd either answer "I'm not especially proud of some parts of my youth" or "I'm a little too embarrassed to talk about that right now". I'm grateful they were smart enough to take it for what it was worth  :smt001

But I digress.

As a newbie I don't read posts here with much in the way of expectations. It's so bad I looked at the picture and thought, "What the hell kind of fish is that anyway???". Shrugged my shoulders and figured someone would enlighten me, and sure enough a few posts later Ariel did.

That said, I am not a member who has posted hundreds of detailed reports talking about where and how I caught fish, helped the endless line of newbies, like myself, get started, etc, etc. So I get how if I were one of those guys I might think "WTF?".

I also don't think suggesting that this belongs in the pics section is out of line. That's probably more accurate, though being here really shouldn't be a problem either, really.

On the one hand, but then on the other hand .... just glad I got hands  :smt004.

my position is that a report is a report if it's not a lie.

nice and simple.

Why do I take this position? Here is my motivation:

this website lives and dies by reports.

reports dry up and it's just a bunch of guys wishin' they was fishin'.

So the dynamic has to be one that encourages truthful reports no matter how slim the information is, not one that discourages reports.

complaining about reports in any way discourages reports.

so it is simple: don't complain about reports!

corollary is that any report is a useful report so post them up, skunk or not, give what info you feel comfortable giving.

Personally I think that should be some sort of position that Bill states somewheres (maybe he does already), then the next time somebody complains about a lack of info, sombody else can go out on a limb instead of me (cause I really do hate getting beat up by the 510 bangers, ouch, that smarts!,  :smt008) and point out that the policy is 'no complaining about reports as long as they are true' and nobody has to get called a crybiatch,  :smt002

if you complain about a lack of pictures or lack of detail, or anything at all really, all you are doing is killing the goose that lays the golden eggs when it comes to this website.

somebody posts a report, take what you can from it, hold your tongue/fingers if you find yourself wishing they gave more info (you could alway PM them and ask for more info..).

and if you are poosting, maybe yeah, hold down the boosting too..

John

Thank you John,
I only wish I could express my thoughts as professionally as you,
I have been watching this thread and also wish there was more info about this great catch, however I don't blame him for not posting details. Imagine the crowds that would infest his secret spot both Yak and pb. I am just grateful we got a pic of this awesome catch
