How is the diving conditions around there?  I am wondering if I should bring the long freedive fins or stick with my shorter scuba fins.  I can't wait to try out the new speargun!  Any other scuba divers going?

I have been assembling my swimbaits and putting hooks on the jigs.  I fall asleep everynight dreaming of the big fish of shelter cove.....

I just have to watch all of Abkings videos until then.

How do you think the Halibut prospects will be that time of year?  I know it is pretty early.

Matt

Hi Matt,

The diving condition is unpreditable, there're good days when you get 15 - 20ft visibility and there're days that you can't see anything until you reach the bottom.  I would recommend shorter fin if you dive from the yak.  I've never tried SCUBA dive there but have seen people dove there.  May is a little early for the Hali at SC and usually you have to go out 5 - 7 miles for the big ones.

To get some clear water will be kinda lucky, but not un-heard-of.  There is halibut potential, but this spot would be known more for murky water than clear, so don't hold your breath (bad pun!   :smt002).

With PeteB and Abman I think we're up around 50...  (potential)  :smt001

as the date nears, i"ll be down to make this trip. Ocean winds are(usually) at full strength in May. I don't want to get all fired up for another WX let-down.
I sure hope we can get a break and have some sweet conditions to match a SWEETER Hookup!!

Way I see it is in three days there must be at least some window's of opportunity to get out and do some fishing.  And if I am for some reason unable to do that, I'll just enjoy the good company!

My experience running Kayak whale watching trips all through May is that the winds up here are mellow then as long as you're off the water by 2:00pm. They can blow strong anywhere near the Cape anytime but May is a safe bet if you had to pick a month

Quandary:  will the winds along the Lost Coast be too blustery in May?

Peace of mind:  a professional guide telling us it's looking good!   :smt003

(Thanks, Hawk!   :smt001)
