It's getting serious.  I love it.   :smt001  I'm coming up with some ideas for a welcome pack to give out as well as prizes for a possible tournee.  If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open!   :smt006

I've read up & down the latest roster list about 5 times & I still don't see this "Mooch" character on there. Oh well, I guess he doesn't really exist.

I can see the headline in local news paper: "Shelter Cove was invaded by kayak anglers"  :smt003

How about a favorite rockfish lure exchange. Each angler brings their favorite lure with written tips on how to fish it. They go into a big bag which people draw blindly from. After selecting, the lure is shown to the crowd and the tips are read. Great way to learn new tactics.

Gear swap. I'll be bringing bulk lead.

Abking, I booked the two-queen room at The Tides this morning. Julie likes our SC stimulus plan. When I get my check from Obama, I'll just pass it on to Julie. That what we're suppose to do isn't it????

Thanks for your stimulus plan to get us all moving. It's obviously a hit.

Add me to the list!

I took the wife to a brunch of mexican food and margaritas for V-Day :smt007, and once the drinks took effect I told her about GS III. She said it sounded like fun and a good way for me to get some experience on the ocean. Then I told her that you guys recommended having a VHF radio for safety purposes, she then replied that she was thinking of getting me a FF for the Yak. I told her that the Radio should be priority and she agreed and suggested we go look for one. After the food and drink we hit Costco (nuthin there) then Wally World where we picked up a Midland Nautico 5 watt for 66 bucks, then she noticed the FF's and asked if I needed one of those also. I replied that one was on the wish list but it could wait. She said, "well check them out while we are here". So we did and wound up getting an Eagle Cuda 242 for 96 bucks.

Needless to say, Maureen (Mo) is the greatest wife in the world  :smt008 (IMHO) and she's put up with my antics for 28 years now! We will both be newbies to this NCKA event, so be kind to her and have your wives and girlfriends introduce themselves and include her in the girl stuff as well (you can kick sand on me, I can take it!).

Well I guess I better check out the FF install threads and start pimpin the Yak!

Tight Lines!, Tad & Mo

PS, We will secure a spot in the CG with the NCKA group and will try to bring fire wood.

Right on, BobN!  We've got it half full.

Congrats, Tad - great score!

Gear swap sounds great, and food list will be crazy - keep 'em coming!   :smt001

Tad, hang onto that woman!!! You've got yourself a winner. I look forward to meeting you both.

Don't worry too much about all the gear, hang with part of the group and focus on fish catching. You'll be good. Newbies have always scored big in this group. Think big ling. It will come to you.

I have some firewood I can bring too, mostly oak and a bit of alder for grillin. We will head down early Friday and try to jig up some dinner and maybe and ab or two. Abking and I were talking about a few issues today regarding liability (on his part for setting it up) and safety. We thought it was a good idea to remind everyone to have all of the safety gear required by the Coast Guard. I have been boarded by them in the past off the cove, I was in a PB though. I will post a list tomorrow and anyone can add to it. Thanks.

I will bring my rice steamer and stuff for sushi too.

Fresh uni anyone? There are some huge urchins there.

Tight lines.

Ok I can't stand it, you guys are killing me.  I am putting in for the time off work to head over.  It simply sounds like too much fun.  Fishing, Eating, Drinking are some of my favorite pass times, and it sounds like they will be all in one place.... Gimme Shelter III !  I will know hopefully by next month if I get the time off and my upcoming TAR training will not interfear.

Banjotad, beenfishin we can try to carpool.  I may try to haul my tent trailer over (sleeps 3-4).  I have a full size extended cab truck with a camper shell and roof racks.  We can make plans as it gets closer.  I will try to head over Thurs evening or Fri morning if it doesn't interfear with my training in Sacramento.  The training dates have not been set so I will have to wait and see.

Banjotad, let me know how you are doing on gear.  I might have some loaner gear and can spare some homemade baits and jigs.  I will be using my salmon/striper rigs.  Abu 6501 reels on berkley lightning rods, 20lb test line.  I may bring a tiger stick with a Penn 321, but that may be over kill.

I have not gotten a Lingcod yet, that will be my goal.  Winning the tourney will simply be iceing on the cake.......

Abking what are you thinking of for prizes?  I can probably come up with something or donate an item.  We could do a blanket prize tourney.  Everyone brings something, and who ever gets first gets first pick, second, third, ect.  Everyone gets a prize, although with the number of folks signing up, that may take a while!

As far as liability, I don't think you have to worry about it unless it is a sanctioned event; in which case we would need a permit from DFG.  I will do a little research in case law to confirm.

I hope I can make it!  Matt
