John, Ken Fishnfool is the one who fishes mostly from his float tube - and a fine fisherman at that :smt002 This is not the guy everyone is talking about here.

Just an FYI :smt002

No, I have fished with both guys, ken fishnfool only once on a perch fishing trip, he let my boy reel in a fish,  :smt001.

kickfish I have fished with at lex and at the quarry.

I know them both.

What I said about kickfish is correct.

Remember. I don't make mistakes,  :smt002.

i love the way this thread has drifted all over the place- makes my evening here in freezing a## boston much more enjoyable.

My favorite part is about the PETA boogeyman...secretly lurking on our little site believing everything that is posted.  Doesn't everyone know that there are liars, damn liars, and then there are fisherman?
(5 points to first person who picks up on that bastardized quote)

Second favorite part is the boosting about long range trips..."there i was far out in the ocean, catching big fish from a big boat..."  I'm sure its an experience.
Personally, the hardest fishing i've ever experienced was trying to sneak up on a bunch of spooky bones in about 8inches of perfectly clear water, while totally jet lagged and buzzed on betelnut and beer.
Oh no? is that boasting?  Maybe not, i didn't catch a dang thing- but did have one pick up my fly after scaring the crap out of a few dozen over the course of the day....

I for one, will continue to post "total fish caught or not caught"... I might forget to post the day after that stellar striper day- or should i say cellar stripper day?

whether I remember to say that I tend to C&R everything that will actually survive or not, who knows?

Great googly moogly (+2 points for ref), am i getting old enough to ramble?

Fish hunter,

From the yak.  13 salmon off of Linda Mar.  30 trips out of Half Moon Bay.  3 trips out of Moss Landing.  maybe 5 trips out of Davenport.  4 trips out of Buck's Landing.  3 trips to Mendo.  Two trips to Topaz and Bridgeport and there is always the Forebay.  And, a trip to Bean Hollow (solo) 3 days before the attack there.

Ken kickfish

Awwww...fishunter you stole my thunder bro...I wanted to be the first to bring up a sky green reference! LOL!

Admitedly, I have actually learned a few things from kickfish. Like, for example, it takes 5 days to reach the Shimada seamount from SD [1500 miles at 15MPH, right?]. Hmmmm....

jmairey,
Am I being argumentative? YES, I'm Italian after all.  I'd argue with my own grandmother for the sport of it.  Lining up to be mean? I don't think that is the case... A little poking fun at? For sure.  It has gotten a little testy at times, thats true, but its a two way street I think.

Ken Kickfish (I assume it is from fishing from a float tube) has done a lot of fishing, kayak or otherwise.

He also often posts good info.  Personally I learned some valuable kayak fishing info from Ken and I appreciate him for providing me with that.

He also gets into pointless arguments with people he should just plain stay away from, which from the sounds of it, included his ex-wife, and mooch among others.

My recommendation to the young guys that want to argue, like bsteves, fuzz and sigelvictory is to just accept the f*cked up old guys that fish a lot and post sometimes good stuff, sometimes bad stuff.

Best Regards,
John

There's no doubt that Ken has information that is considered valuable to many.  Whether it be a lure choice *cough - smithwick rogue* or top-secret fish advice *cough - catfish in forebay*, Ken has a long history of being forthright with information.   :smt002

This is why it's a shame that Mr. Kickfish chooses to post in the manner evidenced recently.  A forum's purpose is the exchange and open sharing of information.  It is inevitable that differences of opinion will occur; however, this is where members really learn and benefit from the perspectives of others.  When certain individuals choose to present themselves through antagonistic and sometimes offensive posts, this does the entire forum a disservice.  Instead of articulating their point of view, they (intentionally or not) insult other forum members and their original points become lost.  The community members become defensive and a bunch of fun name -calling ensues.   :smt003

NCKA has a tighter knit user-base than most forums, so the defensiveness towards a "rogue" user is more evident.  Kickfish has been around long enough to know this.  If he wishes to argue, he's doing a good job of it.  If he wishes to have open discussions about these things, then he needs a better approach.  He has shown that he can speak clearly when he chooses to.  As I mentioned in my last post, Ken's "post at 4:25am is one of the clearest posts I've ever read" from him.

Even Mickfish responded to that post "OK Ken now your are making some sense"... then Ken went and insulted him.   :smt044

Ken has the choice - he can either post information/questions/concerns in a manner that we have something to discuss... or he can do so in a manner that we, as a community, recognize him for the drama caused rather than the content of his words.  It's a choice we all have when we post.   :smt002

Yes, Sigelvictory, picking on old guys that drink regularly and that have done a lot of fishing but have no social skills and questionable powers of debate/reason, plus some sort of feud with mooch, is lining up to be mean.

plain and simple.

you want a challenge, go pick a "debate" with somebody that is your match, and there are plenty on this site, including some that will clean your clock in round one. But kickfish ain't one of them.

Fuzz, the close-knit nature can become close-minded too. Do you want to ban or remove everybody whose posts you disagree with? It will become a very small, overly provincial and lonely website quite quickly.

The flipside of that means you will have some posts that you'd rather not read.

some of those people really can't help what they post and are too proud to back down or remove it.

Best to ignore the posts that you don't like and concentrate on the ones you do.

I wish I could follow my own advice here, but fine, I'm a hypocrite, do what I say and not what I do,  :smt002

okay, I'm following the hunters lead here, you win, I'm done.

J out, yo.

Quite the contrary.  I referenced that issue in my post above:
"It is inevitable that differences of opinion will occur; however, this is where members really learn and benefit from the perspectives of others.  When certain individuals choose to present themselves through antagonistic and sometimes offensive posts, this does the entire forum a disservice.  Instead of articulating their point of view, they (intentionally or not) insult other forum members and their original points become lost."

Disagreements & debates are normal and productive.  If everyone agreed, it'd be boring as hell around here!   :smt002

In the end, it comes down to the old adage - can you teach an old dog new tricks?   :smt003

i agree with jmairey. everybody should feel free to spew as much crap as they want. that is the beauty of the internet and the first ammendment. Some days we post annoying dribble, and others its profound revelations. take the good with the bad. Antagonistic, masogonistic, whatever. that old dog is doing just fine with his old tricks.

Must have missed something in the last year or did someone come to SG's defence when she was banished from this site? Where were the 1st amendment advocates then? Or does ANYONE miss having to read through that psychobabble which evolved into personal accusations? Sorry, within the internet there are rules and culture. The beauty of the internet is there is a site to meet everyone's needs. My personal opinion is that if you want to talk yak fishing and share knowlege and experiences with others, this is the site. If you want to personally attack certain individuals and falsly accuse others of poaching, this isn't the forum. Of course the only opinion that really matters is Bill's, the godfather of NCKA.  :smt003
