Well, me & buddy Dan have set plans to hit Loch lomond.  Only not on the 1st (The actual opener saturday) but on the 3rd the following Monday instead.  There will be 100% less people, and parking won't be an issue.
We havn't set a time to meet at the lake yet.  In past, arrival time at lake has been around 8am.  I don't suspect this comming trip will be much different.
Trout and BG will be the targets, (Maybe try for a bass as well)

Guess I have to fix my hole in my drive well now!

Is that hole from your Hobie kissing a tree or from another incident? I presume you've replaced your rudder.

Maybe I'll see you and your buddy on March 3. I'm taking that week off to go (eventually) to the Fred Hall show in Long Beach.

I have been going for 4 years now to the opening of LL, but this will be the first year that I will be in the water, rather than watching all the boats go by as I fish from the shore.  Actually, my first place I took my kayak last year when I got it was LL, and I still cant think of a more beautiful place to tour around and enjoy the serenity.  Trout fishing however has been mostly disappointed in the opening weeks, as it seems the DFG doesn't seem to stock any bay area lake as much as the east bay parks are.  But I will be there anyway ;)

Hojo,
No hole didn't come from the tree.  The hole is in the drive well.  It did happen at Del Valle, as I recall seeing it when I removed the drive to load it yak on truck.  It didn't leak due to the hot glue I used to reinforce the area under the where the hole happened. (Common problem on OB's) I'm concerned that the hole (pics later) will cause hairline cracks to travel out left & right past the reinforcements I did.
I did get a replacement rudder, but befor I install it, I'm waiting to hear from my local Hobie dealer about possibly replacing my hull again. The new 08 hull will not suffer from cracking in the drive well as the hull is solid there now.
If I do get a replacement, it should be fairly quick as my local Hobie dealer is heading to the factory in 2 weeks.

Hey Alshobie:

Ask anyone, they will tell you I am the WORST trout fisherman......I'm pretty good with bluegills at LL, but trout are few and far between.  I keep tryin' though, and I'm learning some techniques tha might improve my scores.

Hopefully we can buddy up on the 3d, I'd be happy to share what little I've learned about fishing these elusive tiny, planter trout.

Hey Allen!  It would be great to fish with you anytime :)  I have actually done very well from the shore there at Loch Lomond.  At times a friend and I both took full limits home of them hatchery trout.  Mostly on inflated worm and power eggs.  But really, the Bay Area gets the short end of the stick for some reason when it comes to plating.  On the last two openers, the trout seemed non-existent for weeks...  Though it does seem to catch up to par by Summer time, when I have dropped by just to have lunch, and can see them swimming by the docks.

You know, I have however heard some rumors, I wonder if they are true, since the lake is closed part of the year that it gives some of the trout time to grow into some big boys.  Its very deep there, maybe just need to go deep trolling to see if anything bites.  But in the many trips I have taken there, never once have I seen even a 3-4lb trout. Some nice bass have been shown to me before there though, might have to give that a try this time out too!

I have personally seen 18-inch trout at LL.  DFG seems to hit it every 3 weeks or so at the beginning of the year, while the lake remains cool.  After that, they stop planting altogether.

last year the planting was extended because the temps stayed down.  Still, nothing like the lakes over the hill.

Just makes every LL trout count for more, I think.

I have taken limits from LL only once, and I've fished it a lot, usually with a trout rod out wherever we are as the kids fish bluegills.

big J!  It will be great to see you again and fish withyou!

Wish I could get March 3rd off to join you guys but it's too close to report card time.  Knock 'em dead.  I'll have to give it a go during spring break.

Dang gonna miss this!! :smt013

Allan, pointer for you, just park your kayak behind the island and throw in some powerbait on a sliding rig witha 3 foot leader. that seems to work for me. There is a hole about 3o feet deep there and the trout seem to swim around its edges.  :smt003 Got the winning trout at the derby last year but didn't enter. Also scored a lot of jumbo bluegills on grubs way in back.....and I mean waaaaaayyyyy back!

The depth at the dam  end is around 109-120 feet at the rope line.  Ive seen many fish schools swim through my FF fov while tied off to buoy, and on occasion, had taken a trout from that marauding school by drowning a worm in front of them.
In the past, trolling with leadline and a yellow rooster tail from the launch towards the dam (off the far bank) was allways productive for me. Although in the recent past (Last season) That didn't seem to help.
I've pretty much given up on trying for bass on this lake, I've only caught 1, a nice 4.5 lbs  from the bank 4 yrs ago now.   Try as I may, I can't get a hook up!  Might have to have Compa come out school me here! I think the bass here have lockjaw.
It'll be nice to see you again Janice.
I'll have my VHF ch69.

Being that LL is just down the mountain from me, I've always meant to go & paddle there. Are there catfish in LL? Love fried CF, not much for planter trout though.
It would be fun to hook up with you all in some freshwater. My work is generally flexible, so the 3/3 is a very real possibility.
