Not that I am excited, but I woke up at 1:30 a.m. thinking about this tournament

Glad that I'm not the only one! :smt003

Glad that I won't be the only one with peddle power! :smt003   Looking forward to meeting you.  What do you peddle/paddle?  I have an orange Adventure.

dilbeck,

Frog Togs is (are?) a lightweight rain suit.

Peddling is the only way to go.  I have an Outback.  I got it originally to fly fish out of but now I have it rigged for trolling.  I think I have it rigged the way I want it, except for a downrigger, but not this year  See you Saturday

EDIT: I will not be attending this tourney. I owe everybody an apology for flaking; I'm sorry. But I have buckled under the pressure from my wife to stay in town. She's sick. My infant son has been sick for a week and she is worried about taking care of him by herself, while sick. Uhhhhhgggg....whats a guy to do? In this case, I am actually going to do the right thing, and stay home with my ill family. I know, pretty lame on my part.
But I will be thinking of my NCKA brethren while changing diapers at 3am. I wish everybody luck, and hope you catch some fatty trout!
Sorry everybody.
And Good Luck to all the participants!

Hey PK -

Oh man, how did I miss that post?  Sorry to hear about that PK.  Definitely making the right decision - when the family needs you, they come first.  On the plus side, you're banking some MAJOR WAF!!  Look forward to meeting you on the water in the future.

BTW, how old is the little one?  Mine is 7 1/2 months and I can't wait until I get to take her fishing. :smt007

Danny Layne of Fishn' Dan's Guide Service reported recent plants of rainbows have improved the bite with blade/nightcrawler or ExCel lures in the top 20 feet near the Spillway and into the Angels Creek arm. The larger fish are found in the upper reaches of the lake from Parrott's Ferry to the south fork of the Stanislaus with shad-imitation lures or rolled shad. The bite at nearby Lake Tulloch remains strong with Uncle Larry's Spinners or Vance's Slim Willies tipped with a 'crawler, longlined Power Bait or rolled shad at depths from the surface to 20 feet from the river channel at the South Shore to the mouth of Black Creek or in the Green Springs Arm near the Power Lines. Layne has landed fish to 5 pounds this week. Melones and Tulloch are scheduled for trout plants this week.

So the dilemma begins.  Does one fish Glory Hole/Angel's Creek for quantity or drive up the road to unload and fish for quality?  Decisions decisions.

Here is a generalized, but informative piece regarding the Melones turnover: http://www.fishsniffer.com/dbacher/041217newmelones.html

Work calls,   :smt013  and I can't make it this weekend. The job has really cut into my fishing this past year, :smt089

Best of luck to all, and just a little tip too.

When you stop to spoon/plug a cove, don't forget to float a night crawler anywhere from 10' to 30'  you might be surprised..

Just finished packing the truck. I threw in my portable gas BBQ. I will try and get to Costco tonight after work for some muffins.

I have two marinated tri tips to BBQ, bread rolls, case of water, case of beer, case of pepsi, six pack of diet pepsi. I'll be at the ramp sometime between 5 and 5:30 am to collect the dues and sign waivers. Any late arrivals will need to radio me on vhf 69 or PM to make arrangements as I would like to get to fishing before 7. Drive safe everyone and see you there.

** Last minute change, due to the small number of partcipants we are not going to have a heavy stringer pot, just a heavy fish pot.

Pat,

Hope your family gets well soon. I remeber those days and all I have to say is enjoy each of them good or bad. I blinked and my kids are now in their 20's. Still love the heck out of them :smt003

To everybody else. Have a great time and catch those big boys that are in there. A lot of trout around the 49 bridge and upstream to Parrots Ferry.

Splashdown,

Do you know if the Highway 49 road and ramp are improved or unimproved?  Could this rain have mucked up the access?

The so called ramps are the old roads and go all the way to the bottom of the lake. They are "unimproved" but never get dilapidated. Just watch the shoreline cuz it always gets muddy this time of year. I can't remeber the parking situation, but it never was bad.

Thanks for the kinds words, everybody. My little guy, Duke, is 5 months old now. (Although, I probably will have to stop calling him "little guy" soon. As he was born 10lbs 5ozs and now weighs over 19lbs! At this rate, he'll be calling me "little guy" soon!)
As a reward for staying home, my wife let me use some of our savings to buy a new mattress...finally. It gets delivered tomorrow! But I'll still be thinking of you guys while changing diapers at 3am. [Apologies for the thread-jack!]
Good Luck everybody!
