Dillbeck,

Camp 9 is way up the canyon above Parrots Ferry. Real nice boat ride up in the canyon and  good place for early morning bass fishing in the spring. When the lake is low, a lot of trout will congregate there since it becomes like a river.

Haven't been up that far in years, nor have I fished my "home lake" in some time.

Thanks for the info Splashdown!  To me it makes sense about the trout but I wonder why the bass congregate there in the spring - shallow water spawn?

If by "home lake" you meant Melones, you should join us this weekend.  The more the merrier.  :smt006

Dillbeck,

Can't make it Saturday. :smt010 Sunday my better half and I are hitting Del Valle though :smt003
I forgot to tell you. You can drive down to Camp 9 right off of Parrots Ferry. YOu head towards Murphys and right before you get there ther is a little sign that is Camp 9 rd. Nice drive but a little bumpy.

Make sure you tell someone you're heading down there just in case you have troubles. It is a long way back up the hill.

What is cool to look at is when the Kokanee spawn up there. They turn the water red there are so many of them.

Splashdown,

Bummer that you can't make it Saturday.  Good luck at DV Sunday.

Thanks for the heads up on Camp 9.  I'll definitely be visiting it over the summer.  When do the kokes spawn - fall?  Would love to see the sight you described.

Look forward to fishing with you in the future.

Michael

Brian,

Just found this on the first page and I think you might have counted me twice - number 1 & 2.  Although I've invited TWO friends, it looks like I will be rolling solo.  :smt011

Just to get an idea of numbers (& competition :smt003), I added Yakuza, Marmite, Hitide, akagrumpy, and of course Brian.  I thought we had more participants than this.  :smt009

What happened to all the people who said they'd attend in the original thread, Poll for interest in winter Trout Tourney.

I'm probably pimping this way to much.  I'll just shut up now! :binkybaby:

Dillbeck,

Kokes spawn around late September, I think.

The bass hang out there because of all the trees around that are still in the water.

Also the large brown trout that are resident in the Stanislaus River can be had down there too as well as large rainbows.

Good luck to all at the tournament :smt006

Bummer that you can't make it.  It's definitely for a good reason though.  Just had my first child in April so I know.  Have a safe trip down & back.  Look forward to meeting up with you another time.

Just finished installing the transducer, RAM mount, and thru-hull wiring in my T140. Hopefully everything works properly!

Looks like a big storm is on its way. Supposed to rain Thursday through Friday morning. Uuuhhhh...might have to wear my waders all wknd.

Take the instruction book with you (in a zip lock) unless you are familiar with the operation.  My first time out, I thought I new how to work it.  WRONG!  I spent too much time fiddling and not enough time fishing

Good advice, Grizz. But it is actually the same FF I've been using on my old Drifter, a Matrix 27. And, to tell you the truth, I just hit Power and start padling. Hardly ever mess with the settings.
Just needed to set up the new-to-me T140 so I can use the FF on it. Unfortunately, I did a permanent install of the transducer in my Drifter, so I had to buy a new 'ducer for the T140...but got it on eBay for 25 bucks new. I use a Micro RAM mount for the head unit so I can easily transfer it from yak to yak.

EDIT: I will not be attending this tourney. I owe everybody an apology for flaking; I'm sorry. But I have buckled under the pressure from my wife to stay in town. She's sick. My infant son has been sick for a week and she is worried about taking care of him by herself, while sick. Uhhhhhgggg....whats a guy to do? In this case, I am actually going to do the right thing, and stay home with my ill family. I know, pretty lame on my part.
But I will be thinking of my NCKA brethren while changing diapers at 3am. I wish everybody luck, and hope you catch some fatty trout!
Sorry everybody.
And Good Luck to all the participants!

As of now, it is forcast to rain Friday but not Saturday. :kick  I will be bringing the rain gear just in case, though.  I never trust forcasts.
The high for Saturday is between 47 & 53 :smt119 so dress appropriately. :cold  I'll be all layered up!!

Bought a few goodies last night in anticipation.  Man I am itching, I can't wait.

Not that I am excited, but I woke up at 1:30 a.m. thinking about this tournament, first one that I will be in in about 30 years.  I think I'm ready.  Got a new rod and reel, a new net, frog togs, patched a rip in my waders,  finished installing outriggers on my Hobie, got some new lures and spoons, read up on everything I could find on New Melones and kayak trolling, charged the batteries for my FF, VHF and Camera, bought some pepperoni pizzas for breakfast on the road and lunch (plus it makes a great fish attractant), nothing left to do but the catching - then the man dawgs!
