Just want to declare publicly that this isn’t me having a joke on NCKA

I would have lost a bet...

OP is obviously ESL, I wouldn't worry about "radio talker" and his English is proficient enough assuming he isn't using a translation tool to post here.

I have similar concerns as Bushy wrt other safety matters.  An open invite for a trip like this is a giant red flag for me.  I wouldn't invite just anybody on a trip half as ambitious.

Yes, Maybe it's not a good idea to find a fishing partner here if the people here who see and think something in different way, I am new here, I don't know what is the culture here, what people like to do here, suddenly pop out this invitation maybe make some people uncomfortable, I might delete this post?

I wouldn’t delete it.  I’d just want to be sure anybody you hook up with to go isn’t a liability.  Some kind of resume with offshore AI sailing and self sufficiency for starters.  This is a public forum with people of all skill levels, and sometimes one’s skill level and one’s level of ambition are wildly divergent.

I think that trip sounds epic and look forward to the report.

Don’t delete it.  Keep posting and inspire.  Many are just looking out.  I would be sad to read about ya’ in the obits but you seem skilled with those long distance adventures give or take communication tools.   Hope you get a fish tho’ that is only part of your mission.  :smt006

hahaha, I wont be so easy to die, life is fragile, life is strong as well. but if I really die, please song this poem on my obit:

Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

Do not stand at my grave and mourn.
I am the dew-flecked grass at dawn.
Where tranquil oceans meet the land
I am the footprints in the sand
To guide you through the weary day.
I am still here; I’ll always stay.

When you wake up to morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.

By Mary Elizabeth Frye (1905-2004).

My hat is off Mr Xia Huang those are some pretty serious kayak adventures

I see from pages on other sites you’ve also done some surfing so maybe my son and I will see you out on the lineup

If you see an old bald guy swimming and filming surf videos with an iphone be sure to say hello

I definitely will say : " Hi My Friend" when I see you :)

+1

Sorry for reacting with a laugh when I saw your post.  You might just be one of those rare dudes who quietly performs feats that are not attainable or are outside the realm of consideration for most of us.  Thank you for sharing here.  I look forward to reading your story.

And, yeah, definitely get a radio - two is better.  I carry three.

And do this for sure - can't go wrong.   :smt001

Thank you!
I am looking for someone to be back up each other, I knew solo kayak on ocean is a risk, but looks its not easy to find some one who have the same interest and on same area with the same schedule. But it wont stop me to achieve my dream. I just need to be more careful and prepare better to compensate shortage of solo kayak, what I did is just a start, my next year plan is to drift from Monterey Bay to LA, and all the way the hook on the water to see what can I get, its interest, right?  :)

My interest is: Adventure + Fishing . Adventure take 80% and Fishing take 20%

I feel at the end, I will be solo. Now I understand better: why have so many solo on this world :)

Abs! Long time We should chat sometime

My Chinese translator and I read through some posts by Mr Xia Huang and it was pretty interesting As a result when my son and I finally get around to setting up a TI we may face some resistance on the home front

We have only two objectives - salmon and getting out to watch mavericks when it’s firing

No water camping or trips to the farallons im too old for it

No, you are young, never say : I am too old t, before people die, he/she always young, this is the way I treat other people and treat myself  :)

Interesting post!

I've got an AI and launch out of Santa Cruz all the time, yet I've never seriously contemplated something as ambitious as Mr. X's great adventure. I'd say that under the right conditions, it's do-able, but the wind is fickle and I'd hate to be facing a significant headwind for any part of it. Just about as bad would be no wind, as that would be a long, long ways to pedal an AI (and, presumably, even worse on a TI).

If you need anything, like a spare radio or spare mirage drive or anything else, let me know. If you do leave next Saturday at 5:00am from the SC harbor, I'll be there on my AI, and shadow you for the first few miles...

HI Man, you are so kind, I am really appreciated for your friendship.
If whether wont change to be bad, I will be SC Harbor at 05:00am Oct/08/2022, after I make the plan, usually I wont change it. And usually I will use the wide ramp which next to the restaurant that one, looking forward to see you there  :smt006

Sure, I will make it.
The question, the problem is: Can I be luck enough to get a salmon? or get a Halibut? Or just get some Rockfish?   :smt001

Xia-

No offense, but I'd advise you 're-think' this trip.  You do not sound experienced enough or prepared at all. I wouldn't attempt a trip like this myself. Chances of catching a salmon or a tuna anywhere on that route are slim to none right now. (Well, maybe a salmon, but not in the middle of the Bay.  20 feet of water next to the Santa Cruz Wharf is holding some net-pen fish right now.)  I'm wondering if perhaps your post is in jest, even.

You were planning it without having a radio?  Not aware of the effective range on your "radio talker?"  You don't know what a radar reflector is?   My sincere safety advice is, fish your butt off in the ocean for the next year or two, short trips try different wild locations and conditions. Get a feel for how challenging the ocean can be even on short, near-shore outings.  Always have a buddy with you as well as all safety equipment. (Plenty of threads on this forum regarding safety stuff).

To put it bluntly, this idea sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.  Check into your local Coast Guard Auxiliary group.  They offer seamanship instruction that covers a fairly broad range including safety, navigation and maritime rules, regs and law.

Bushy

Bushy,
Thanks for your message.
I am playing Kayak only near to one year, still have lots of thing need to learn, but I guess I am not that totally green. like:
1) Kayaking from Bay area across GGB to HMB within two day one night
2) Kayaking from HMB to SC within one day under 28 MPH and 33 Gusts wing
3) Kayaking from Drake Beach to Farallon Island within 2 day 1 night
4) More than 8 time kayaking in Moss-landing and 2 times at midnight
5) Join CSC member to learn sailing stuff
6) and so on, please check my first post, the introduction post if you like

Once again, thank you message, we all know human being is nothing in wild nature world, we short life time, 80-100 years is Max, we are weak, easy to die, but what I can do is, balance my time, respect nature world, talk with nature world, merge my soul into nature world, don't be fear based on well prepared.

I will be much appreciated if you can point out where is my weakness and help me to improve, share your experience and knowledge. Thx!

This is my introduction Post:

You are crazy.  We kinda like crazy.  So you've been out there on long transits with success. I wish success for you on this trip as well, if you go for it. I liked your poem.  Being ready to die suggests a life well-lived.

A fellow san jose asian brother.  I would love to have accompanied you, however, I'm booked next weekend for other duty.

Its pretty rare that this group is left stupefied.  But color me very impressed with your Farallon overnighter - that was amazing.  Will join you another time.  Good luck  :smt006

Bushy, first thing I thought is this has to be Chet getting a friend to translate into Chinese wechat posts

Mr Xia Huang seems to like similar adventures anyway

"&" said it best, I think. Huang doesn't mind dying, that might be a cool way to go. Numbah Wan Xtra Lahge could probably SWIM to the Farralons. (Or, swim back if he had to.)

Hi “& “
Thank you, that is cool, I am looking someone can be my back up, and I can be his back up, we back up each other , by this way, the safety coefficient will be increase dramatically!  Adventure plus fishing is perfect mix event

This year this trip might be my last middle long distance trip, I have plan for next year, we have lots of time to be together for fun  :smt003

When crab season open, we can be together to catch some :smt003

Hi bluekayak, Chet is a person name? You want to introduce someone to me who has the same interest? That is cool!

Sorry if I understand wrongly.

Hi bushy,
Numbah Wan Xtra Lahge Is a person name? Who is he?
By the way, I need to correct your imagination on Me: :smt003
1) I am a shy, timid and small guy, I do mind to be dying
2) That is why I am trying my luck to find a fishing partner here to be back up each other. With partner, the safety coefficient will be dramatically higher. But I just do it if no partner
3) Every time when I am going to ocean, I always ask myself: How risk is it? If I will die, definitely I won’t go. Keep in live is definitely my first priority. But for some unnecessary worries, I just ignore it, for the example, people will die in car traffic incident, so I scare to drive car? No! Same as playing kayak  :smt003
4) Walk through the edge of the die by well prepared, that is ultimate pleasure, no other happiness like orgasm can compete this ultimate happiness. The soul is calling me to be there. This doesn’t mean I don’t mind to be dying, I do.

In other words, in the end, we all will die, I want to extend my life by experience more, I like adventure because I treasure my life. Sound conflict statement, huh? hahaha.  :smt011 :smt001 :smt001

Back when I used to sea kayak there were some that made the SC to Monterey crossing in groups. It was not considered crazy.
