Looking for recommendations on lithium battery brands and chargers to run a fishfinder and lights, no trolling motor.  Any thoughts?

Chet hasn't been making batteries for over a year.  COVID prices/supply issues.
I'd be interested in the next best thing available now.

I have been very happy with my Dakota Lithium battery. There are a few old threads that have covered the advantages (can completely discharge, less likely to catch on fire, fast charging, lightweight) of LiFePO4 in detail or do a quick web search.

I am an avid RC flier and I take my old tired batteries (12.6 v lipo) and use them to power my fish finder.  3 2200 mAh in parallel will power the Striker 4 all day.  I put the whole battery set and wiring in a waterproof bag and off I go.  A 6000 mAh graphene battery is about 75 bucks these days.  If you have the wires / bag / charger already, this is a dirt cheap and effective way to go.  And the batteries are in stock.

If it's too gizmo oriented, then yeah, buy a dedicated kayak setup but they just seem expensive for what they are.

I love my Dakota lithium 12v 10AH for its exceptional quality, long lasting (3+ days on my old FF's) works in all temps and is very very light indeed. I have a Lock-N-Lock Tupperware container to hold my battery in to keep it dry inside my hull.  I got a 7AH and that works for about 2 half days of fishing, like 4-5 hours.  Probably go higher for the high draw FF's if you want multiple days out of one charge.

I'm a big fan of these batteries too. They're lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), so a different chemistry than lithium ion. Weight-wise, it's between SLA and lithium ion, and performance-wise it's ubertastic. I've had one (K2 brand, but same thing as Dakota) for 8 years or so, and never had any issue. Among the many plusses is that it charges incredibly quickly.

I am looking at batteries, too, have a note of caution. When things go wrong with a lithium battery you want to be at least a couple towns away from it. A kayak is a wet environment and ocean water is an outstanding electrolyte. I want the battery isolated in a waterproof box with IP67 rated glands, cables, and connectors.

I was looking at FPV Power lithium batteries, have it bookmarked, but have not seen in person. In the battery box, with the battery, is monitoring (and charging!) circuity so that in the event of a short circuit anywhere, this battery shuts off. Only 2 sizes to choose from, 7Ah and 17.5Ah. Not cheap.

Battery and charger in a waterproof IP67 box.

My other consideration is a DIY project. IP67 boxes, glands, cabling, and connectors (all that stuff is used for solar panels) are available on Amazon. A 12Ah SLA (AGM) will set me back $28. Nothing going on in my life that requires the rapid charging or discharging of a yak battery. A fishfinder is not a Tesla.

For battery charging I use NOCO Genius product at home. I like their little 1amp charger for small batteries. It has a battery maintenance function. I put a battery on it for charging and come back days, weeks later, no problem.

In August I took a trip to Albion with my X-Factor, and though I use a waterproof box I hadn't noticed that it had cracked.  That weekend I found that I had a serious crack in my X-Factor that was leaking gallons of water inside my hull, and the un-waterproof box had literally filled with sea water and sat with my FF connected, soaking in salt water for over 12 hours.  I was surprised, the battery positive terminal disintegrated, was just gone, but the FF still worked fine with my spare battery.  The SLA's are bullet proof, but heavy, and cheap.  The Dakota's seem bullet proof, but light, and costly.  But they will last for a long time, you can run them down farther than an SLA, and charging is a breeze.

I also use a NOCO Genius 1amp, it was a steal of a deal for charging my truck battery and worked great on my Dakota's.  I have one of their chargers as well, but tend to use the NOCO most of the time, unless I need to charge two at once.

One more thing to note, Dakota has sponsored NCKA for AOTY in the past as well.  :smt002

LiFePO4 batteries, like Dakota Lithium, are much safer than other lithium batteries. They don't burn up. That's one of their major advantages.

Thanks everyone for all of the helpful info!  I did a lot of research myself and based on everything, I ended up ordering a Dakota lithium and charger.  Now, I’m researching ideas for a waterproof/resistant case.  I’ve seen some great posts on this as well.
