For you, experts out there, question on LiFePO4 battery chargers. I am planning to get a new battery, thinking LiFePO4.
I have a 12V trickle (slow) charger running 2 Amp, will this be adequate to charge a LiFePO4 battery?
Second option, can I use Chet's Li Ion battery charger which I still have left over from my misfortune ?
I had one of Chet's Li ion battery packs and I screwed up, thinking it was water proof, after over one year of immersion use it died, definitely my bad, however still have the charger...yea, I know, I should have fixed that leak in my kayak first  ;(

Thanks!

No, that charge probably won’t work unless it’s specifically says ion batteries. The one that I posted a link to is probably the best tender for a lifepo4 battery. Has a different charging cycle to prolong the battery’s life. It’s not cheap but neither are replacing the batteries. I have had one of Chet’s battery packs for my old kayak. Had no problems with it at all. I’m I’m sure his charger could work but then again do you want to gamble with $120+ for a replacement? I have learned the hard way and fried a lifepo4 battery. I’m not an expert but have learned from mistakes and done some research to make so I don’t repeat.
For that leak though.… just slap some silicone caulking over it to buy you some time. Kayaks are easier to paddle when they don’t have water in them. Lol.

Lots of good info already, couple of add'l things about chargers.
I've recently upgraded to LiFePO4, and researched/played with several chargers.
1. Your "old" charger for SLA likely won't work with LiFePO4.
2. Not all Lithium-compatible chargers are the same. In particular, for LiFePO4 battery you want charger that
- explicitly says it's for LiFePO4 (not just "lithium")
- can do 14.4V (or 14.6V)
3. Has "reset" (or 0V) feature. (when battery is almost depleted, BMS protection will activate - w/o 0V feature charger won't charge it)

Also, if moving to a higher rate charger, keep an eye on wires. I.e. I could not find confirmation that it's OK to charge at 10A / 12 VDC  using 18AWG wire (some resources say it's OK, some - not).
