Thinking of getting a trolling motor and not doing the CA Registration. Does anyone know how much the violation or fine would be?

What happens with the catch me if you can attitude?  I'm the type of person who drives in the commuter lane waiting for my ticket.

What do you guys think?

I think you will be fine.  If they catch you just yell and curse at them and tell them to f***k off.  They will feel intimated by you and leave you alone.

When they pull you over, just exit your car and start running in the opposite direction. :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

“I’m going fishing.”  They said, “we will go with you.”

Sure, but I'll bet you keep a stash of Tasty cake on hand for bribes if you're caught

+1

Or don't, seeing people get pulled over for driving solo in the HOV lane while I sit in traffic warms my little heart

Probably at least $250

You get away with it, until you don't.

I’m torn.

Driving solo in the commuter lane wreaks of selfish prickery, as the only people you’re getting over on are fellow commuters.  However, registration fees for a kayak with a trolling motor seems like textbook government overreach....and i tend to support rebel citizenry in such instances.

I say damn the man, run the trolling motor and let the Leo’s sort it out. Pro tip....any self respecting law enforcement officer is going to expect fresh baked goods, typically of the round sugar coated variety. Attempted bribery with any of these third rate factory snack cakes that get pumped out on an assembly line are just gonna score you a guaranteed ticket.

A long time ago, I bought a little inflatable like 9 ft with a little tiny OB on it. It was registered but the numbers weren't on the hull yet, being rubber and all.  Took it up to Van Damme and on the very launch I got nailed, no ticket when I showed the regis., but a stern warning "I don't wanna see this boat without numbers again". Actually that's my life story, tried to move one of my daughters cars from one place to another with expired tags, yep, one time out and got nailed again.  I don't even try anymore.

As far as the HOV lane, others have said it best.

In addition to the fine you will have to pay for the registration and fines since your kayak was first sold and maybe DFW violations for fishing out of an unregistered  watercraft. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Heck, I took home an undersize Dungeness claw that broke off the crab and I’ve been on the lam since.
