I just got the 2019 Hobie Revo 16.
It’s really thin and there’s no room for rail within reach.
Only closer to the Mirage drive. It’s not like the Revo 13.
Does anyone have recommendations on rigging it for Salmon fishing (downrigger, rod, fish finder)? Any photos you can share would be helpful.
Also, I wonder how different rigging options affect transportation.
And how do you load and unload from car.
Cheers!

Mount the DR in the cup holder. Search for posts by pmmpete for all the info you could ever want on mounting a DR on a skinny kayak...

Also, for rod holders and such, you can mount railblaza sideports inside the mesh pockets. Use starboard plastic for backing. Railblaza regular starport (rectangular not round) mounts will fit on the gunwales (just barely). You can use the comparable Scotty mounts too, but the ones on the gunwales require a big hole, and the ones that fit in the mesh pockets are about 4x the size of the railblaza, and so you don’t have much pocket space left.

I’d be glad to post some pictures when it cools off outside...

Congrats on the new yak!  I have been waiting on mines since the beginning  of summer.

Would yak attack Gt90 rails work?  They seem pretty narrow.

Oh yeah, good call. I found one post but it’s for a beefy downrigger and requires rails on both sides.
Is that what you mean? I’m looking for something simpler and lighter. The Scotty mount in the pocket is a good example. The only issue is that I also need my rod holder on that side and it’s not clear how. Maybe another Scotty in the pocket and a rod holder with an extension arm?

Yeah, that’s the one shown in one of the images. They are indeed slim. But you can see they are pretty far. Almost next to the drive.

Scotty mount with backing plate in the pocket, then you can use Scotty Triple Rod Holders (which what I did), or use YakAttack GT90 Rails with backing plate. Use YakAttack Mighty Mount for the DR mount.  On either case, I suggest you use the Scotty Locking Mount 241L.

I think the DR mount on the cup holder is a better idea.  Just keep in mind that it maybe on the way if you need to jump in/out from the yak.

The gunwales near the seat are too narrow for any kind of track. But I’m glad you recommended the Scotty with the locking. Are they reliable? Do they need maintenance? Is there metal inside, or is it plastic only?

Why not mount rails with good thick starboard backers on the outside just in front of the handles? Give me minute and I’ll download your pick mark up the area I’m talking about and put them in this post.

They are, I've put a bunch through surf launches and the usual wind/waves/transport.  Just be sure to rinse them after outings, especially to get rid of sand.  So far so good on mine.

You can put the GT90 with backing plate by the pocket.  It can easily handle a downrigger with the YakAttack Mighty Mount, but I've never tried using a sinker more than 4 lbs (I suspect it will be ok up to 8 lbs).  I've used the YakAttack with Scotty Lake Troller using 4 lbs on plastic track and the setup does pretty good as well.

I have my FF mounted in the sail mast, scotty side-deck mounts inside the mesh pockets, and H-rails along the sides by the tankwell. But I don’t use a DR very often. Otherwise I’d mount it in the cup holder.

Scotty flush mounts in that flat area on the gunwale, next to the Mirage drive. Get an extension arm for your rod holder so it will be high enough to clear your legs/feet.  Position it so that the rod crosses over your body ~ ie. mount it on your left and fish to your right or vice versa.  It makes it easier to pull the rod out of the holder when you finally get a bite.

You could forgo the downrigger and just use DeepSix divers or the like.  Keeps things simple while you get a feel for your new yak.

Rigging may effect transportation.  Installing rails or non-flush mounts could get in the way of your vehicle's racks.  You could always use saddle mounts for the kayak so you can transport it right-side-up.

Loading and unloading from a car.  Well, I use the Yakima Boat Loader set up.  Basically, it's a bar that extends horizontally out from one of the racks.  I put my kayak next to my truck, put a rubber floor mat under one end (to keep it from sliding), then I lift the opposite end onto the loader bar.  Once it's leaning on the loader bar,  I move to the other end and raise that end onto the rack.  Then, slide the kayak across onto the racks.  I once saw a guy do this with his car's front door... but it was a beater car though.  It worked fine though.

Other folks use Malone Stingers, Rhino T bars, or carpet on their trunk to push the kayak up from the back.
