Gnarly! Glad the fisherman was not bitten!

GWS seem to like Yum-Yum Yellow with red sauce.

"He managed to flip the kayak back over and scrambled in but again and again the damaged kayak rolled over. “Every time I would pull it right side up, it would flip over,"

I can testify that a staying on a half flooded kayak is very difficult.   Once I was practicing self rescue and couldn't stay on the kayak once i got on.   I realized that my scotty mount had broken off during one of the flips and the kayak was partially filled with water.  Pool noodle will keep the kayak off the bottom of the ocean but it won't keep you from getting extended swim lessons from the landlord.  Anyone got underwater patch and seal tape?

Actually the noodles could save your ass.  When the yak is half full it's very unstable, but when it's full it's stable again, and with the noodles you can sit on top of it even when swamped.

It's not ideal to be swamped, but it's different than what people think.  R&D is a good thing to do.

You’re right, I took mine out due to the slime, funk and hassle of them all over the place in the hull. I’m gonna replace them, but vacuum seal them together food-saver style like other folks here have done.

Statistically, (yeah, I know) shark encounters occur mostly in shallow water. I’m thinking about Dominic’s nearshore experience as an example.

It doesn’t matter how many years you’ve surfed, swam, dove, been a lifeguard or whatever. You’ll want to be prepared, dress for immersion, wear a PFD.

Wow!

Pretty amazing that the kayak didn't take more damage. It looks like if he'd had a bilge pump, he'd have made to make it back to shore under his own power.

Maybe if he could keep pedaling and also pump at the same time (with a hatch open to access the water - not a good idea...).

Water was infiltrating the hull pretty quickly though.
