Got word this morning of a kayak hit at the Cove.  Yak has reportedly sank, and the yakker is reportedly OK.

Other info should come in soon.

It's been windy AF with barely even any powerboats going out this weekend, so it's likely this was close in by the lighthouse/Bell zone.

I've got 2 guys for Thursday - good forecast.  We'll all have flotation, and I'll have the camera ready.

Info coming in in bits.

- yak may not have sunk
- guy had just caught a fish and the shark was after it
- guy punched shark
- 16 to 18 footer
- powerboat assist after the guy was in the water 30 minutes...

All of this is preliminary and subject to clarification or change.

Majestic, Powerful and Scary.  :smt001

Crazy battle scars on him/her.

Good to hear no one was hurt on the attack.

Encountered a few . In boats though. Probably twice as exhilarating in a kayak.

Here's a juvenile we encountered feeding on a whale this past saturday.  Lots of GWS in the Monterey bay this time of year. Seems a little more often the last few yrs.

Good to know some other folks will be down there on Thursday. I was looking at the forecast and was thinking of giving it a go.
I'll be on 69

Max - Channel 69 is useful if there's a tournament, but I advise you to use the local channel - 68 - at all other times.  I keep 68/local channel on during tournies too.  You don't want to miss the local chatter about the bite, the wind, a shark...etc., and you don't want to miss if a boater is talking to you or about the kayakers in general.

See you down there.

Slapped, slapped it right in the face! I wonder if he asked “what did the five fingers say to the face” first. Glad he’s ok, holy cow.

Excellent example of why not to leave fish on a clip next to yak in water.
