So here’s the larger point, we are a very large organization and there is no time like now to express our views with the authorities who are considering changes to how we recreate and feed ourselves.  Please participate in the call-in.
— Bradley

I'd guess at least half of the regulars on this board are in favor of a complete shutdown.  I'm personally disappointed in every single one of them.

Like who? I just wish people would fish in their own damn backyard instead of flouting the SIP order. Liberty and responsibility are inseparable. It looks to me like many Americans want liberty without responsibility, which will inevitably and invariably result in less liberty for others.

Most often times this is how democracy starts to falter and become a dictatorship. It's a natural progression of governments.

I am having a tough time following this as a logical argument.

With all that said... I am opposed to the closure of oceans, lakes, rivers and streams under the reason they provide.  (Can't social distance at choke points).  It is BS that they will close the fisheries until May 31.  They have the power and my guess is they want to make the headlines as protecting all of us.   :smt009

These guys don’t want to make headlines. They also probably take no joy or pleasure in limiting fishing opportunities (quite the opposite). Let’s be real here: the F&G commission knows that a closure will hurt the bottom line.

Isn't the taxpayer's $5,000,000,000,000.00 "stimulus" gonna cover everyone's bottom line?  I'm sure all government entities well get plenty of this...

My dear underlings, what are you all worried about? Everyone will be covered. And that piece of chocolate cake at Mar-a-Lago tastes so good you wouldn't believe it.

I got the impression that at the very top they would be happier if we were all vegan.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Creature, I was told the commercial license loophole won’t work because first-time applicants must turn in the paperwork at a field office, which are closed. I think you also need to register your kayak & pay another ~400 in fees before you can use it. Otherwise, I had the same idea when they first closed Monterey & SC harbors haha. :-)

If you really want to fish then invest in this "Resident Commercial Fishing License   $149.09   Required for any resident 16 years of age or older who uses or operates or assists in using or operating any boat, aircraft, net, trap, line, or other appliance to take fish for commercial purposes, or who contributes materially to the activities on board a commercial fishing vessel."

Is this to say that commercials won't be shut down? If so, that's bullshit.
My fear is that a temporary closure could be indefinitely extended.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Thanks for sharing the info, Scurvy! I plan to tune in on Thursday. Because I want to know as much as possible and prefer to hear it first-hand. Fishing is very important to me, but I understand the concerns for public health. Often times, we have to make compromises for the greater good—the annual fishing regulations are a perfect example of that. And I’ll be prepared to voice my opinion, if relevant.
People should be interested in this stuff no matter which side of the issue you stand on. The issue of fishing closure btw...not political partisan bs :-) I’ve heard enough rhetoric from both sides and lost interest back in like week 2 of quarantine haha

I see this as an attempt to do their part in minimizing the amount of possible contact between unrelated people.  The time frame is to cover through Memorial Day weekend.  My guess is it will happen but if circumstances throughout the state change then the order will be modified.   This is all dependent on the virus and the rate of infection. (My opinion as I do not have any proof or facts to support it.)

I dunno, man. That $30 or so just doesn’t seem very relevant right now, especially considering you’re probably going to receive $1,200 from the government within the next couple weeks.

I hear ya, but I think we’ve got bigger fish to fry.

I haven’t fished yet in 2020, and finally bought a license right before this virus showed up. Sure it stings a little, but I can wait until this is over to go fishing.
