or next years cost should be reduced by the length of the closure for those of us with a valid license.

just wondering what a closure will do for the overall health of the ecosystem.....

Do we get credit for our fishing licenses that we bought for 12 months but only going to be used for  6 or less?? :smt044

I paid for 12!!?😂😂

Keith, based on your math, are you thinking the closure could go through September??? I sure hope not.

I wish I could attend the virtual meeting, but I've got to teach a class (via zoom) tomorrow at 9:00am.

FWIW, my opinion is that it's nuts to even consider closing the fishing season. People need to get exercise and, for me at least, maintaining distance (way more than the recommended 6') while fishing is a piece of cake.

There are plenty of people on the trails around Santa Clara county, and it's pretty easy to keep a 6' distance there. It would be a lot easier to keep an even greater distance if I was fishing, as compared to hiking the local trails. The trails remain open (as they should), so why not fishing?

If you really want to fish then invest in this "Resident Commercial Fishing License   $149.09   Required for any resident 16 years of age or older who uses or operates or assists in using or operating any boat, aircraft, net, trap, line, or other appliance to take fish for commercial purposes, or who contributes materially to the activities on board a commercial fishing vessel."

There is a lot more to it than that as Pat said earlier too. Plus, once it is registered commercial you cannot use it recreationally. As far as I know there is no freshwater commercial fishing anyway. Ocean is different for sure. InSearchOfFish knows all the in's and out about commercial since he is licensed. That is also why he has multiple kayaks since he can't recreational fish from his commercial boat.

Public health officers in several counties have ordered lodging and campgrounds closed and imposed a 14 day quarantine on anybody coming in from out of the county staying at second homes or the like.

That solves the problem, no?
If they add paid snitches like the LA mayor implied they’d really cover all their bases...

hey i read there`s vigilante groups forming just in case for the trout opener up in the foothills to keep people out
that is only a rumor. But, thanks for the idea. I'm going to dust off the banjo and go play it in the woods...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I see absolutely no reason to shut the season down for "personal fishing" I can launch my kayak lakeside almost anywhere and in areas where there are no people or very few. If exercising is ok than kayaking and fishing should be ok too this is BS. I dont have to hug the guy next to me every time he catches a fish maybe flip him off but that's it.

Unlike other forms of exercise (hiking, swimming, cycling, paddling a kayak, pedaling a kayak  :smt001......) fishing is heavily regulated by the State.  Arguing that fishing is another form of exercise is valid but the other forms of exercise don't require buying a license every year and following a book of rules and regulations that are enforced by a State agency.  The State agency has the authority to open and close fishing seasons/areas, etc.   I don't like having freedoms and rights taken away, but I have not seen the posts complaining about the closure of many of the larger area lakes in CA to boats/kayaks.  In a month or two or six, the locked down area will reopen and the closures will be lifted.  At least that is what i keep telling myself.

Total shit show of a meeting. Nobody would mute their phones and now it's canceled. Everyone's screaming and hollering about the constitution now.
