Just saw this from a friend on Facebook.

I'm glad that the state is helping people figure out the priority for saving lives and getting us back to normal earlier than if 10% of people are running around doing what they want during the biggest crisis in our lifetimes.

I do not.  Here's my friend's text from his post:

There was an in-season action today from PFMC/CDFW to NOAA fisheries to closed all April salmon fisheries! COVID-19 has created challenges from marina and boat ramp closures on the coast! Many ramps are already closed and access will be limited this month! Also, the governors social distance policy must be followed and hard to if multiple people are on boats in tight quarters! Non Essential travel would be required for all fishermen to get to the only few ramps left open against guidelines!
This decision was made to save time/opportunity and impacts in northern regions in the model. Also to protect the public safety
See the NOAA Fisheries website which will be updated very soon!
CDFW will do a press release tomorrow 4/1. They are closed today for holiday

This is true.  I’m not as excited about it as some others, but it doesn’t piss me off either.  The season will get adjusted on the back end, there will be a reallocation, and no missed opportunity simply as a result of this inseason change, although that may be something we have to look forward to in the near future.

The source is the Nor Cal guides and sportsman association I believe

https://m.facebook.com/story/graphql_permalink/?graphql_id=UzpfSTQwMjc0NzIxMDA2NTc3NzoxMTU3OTEzOTE0NTQ5MDk5

And golden state salmon association has also posted something..

“ California Ocean Sport Salmon Postponed to May 1

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) today postponed the opening of California’s sport salmon ocean fishing season until May 1.  NMFS acted after discussions with the State of California and salmon fishing representatives to the Pacific Fishery Management Council.

The decision was based on the belief that few sport fishermen and women would fish in April.  Virtually all boat launch ramps providing access to salmon waters have been closed by local authorities.  Commercial passenger fishing vessels (party boats) and “six-pack” charters are expected to be unable to operate under the state's social distancing rules.

The April closure will reduce take of some salmon (Klamath) and may allow additional time to be added later in the season.

Any further changes will be discussed at the upcoming April meeting of the Pacific Fishery Management Council.

In addition, sources close to the California Fish and Game Commission report the Commission has scheduled a call for next week to discuss California's sport fishery in relation to the ongoing virus threat.”

As far as kayak fishing for salmon in the Sonoma/Marin areas this is more of a plus than a minus for us. Most of the time salmon in April are too far offshore to reach by kayak. They will gain a few pounds by May and hopefully by June/July be within a mile or two of shore, maybe closer.

Agreed Charles -- I also saw a post from the Golden Gate Salmon Association that they will discuss adding time later in the season. Likely for down south, but worth noting.

Cheers,
Brad

Makes no sense.  All the boat ramps are already closed.  The ocean is literally right out my back door and I can't launch my ksyak and catch dinner.  Can I still fish for other open species?  Sounds like more dfg bullshit.

Then move along. There’s a spot in WA or ID that might.

All I'm saying is it makes no sense.  It's a lot safer going out and catching dinner than I am buying it at a grocery store.   Fish from the ocean veggies from my garden protects more people than their plan.
