I'm hoping that people will take advantage of the time off work and get something productive done around home rather than sit on the couch binge watching anything.
What a great time to straighten out the garage, get fishing gear in order, go through the closets, etc.
You'll be amazed at how much money you could save by finding things you misplaced or forgot you had.
Stay healthy everyone.

Don't mean to hijack this post again but....

With rock cod season and the striper run about to start, I have some older folk in my family requesting fish to fill the freezer. My grandparents and their generation, already sickly as is, cannot afford to go to grocery stores and go fishing with the younger, healthier generation. I've gotten some requests from older folks to load them up once the bite gets on. I'm already making supply runs for relatives, this might be a helpful tip to weathering this storm together. Of course, weather and shelter orders permitting.

TL;DR
Don't forget your humanity, and where you come from. The way I was raised, younger people have an obligation to care for the older. I see fishing as an extension of this. Don't let panic cloud your vision.

WHO Now Officially Recommends to Avoid Taking Ibuprofen For COVID-19 Symptoms

I would say avoid it altogether. It could be harmful if taken for a headache while you have asymptomatic covid19 and don't know it. Better safe than sorry.

FYI, since they mention paracetamol as an alternative, be aware that paracetamol is known as acetaminophen in the US, aka Tylenol.
If you take acetaminophen, be sure to follow the recommended dose, as too much can also cause liver damage.

Now is the time to plant a garden for fresh fruits and vegetables. Who knows how long it will last.

I’m working from home, tentatively until May 1. NPS isn’t fully closed but only required personnel are allowed on base. The rest of NSA Monterey is doing the same. It’s encouraging to see a lot of different agencies collaborating via our alumni network. I’m organizing a webinar for over 150 of our master’s grads (Cntr for Homeland Defense & Security) and its exciting, but its like herding cats when you’re dealing with fire & police chiefs, state/county emergency mgrs, FEMA, CDC and other Fed agencies...

But I totally agree about starting a garden now. I prepped one of our gardens yesterday and it’s so much easier to pull weeds when the ground is wet! Planting seeds on Friday.

Listening to a respected doc this morning he said, in short, no real evidence to support not taking Ibuprofen. Then I found this article that seems to give a pretty balanced view.

If there is even a suspicion, I'd need a really strong reason to take ibuprofen when there are cheap and easy alternatives.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

California State Parks announced Tuesday the temporary closure of all campgrounds in the state park system to support state and local efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.

As of March 17, non-campground outdoor areas of parks, including trails and beaches, remain open.

Visitors are reminded to practice social distancing and maintain at least six feet between other visitors and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Let’s have a good winter thread.

I have a trip planned in April that may or may not happen. I have theater tickets that may or may not be good. I have to wipe my ass and it’s hard to find toilet paper for some stupid reason.

I’ve already dropped $8k on this trip, not sure how much I can recoup at this point if I ultimately can’t go.

The sharks are playing to an empty arena, Giants preseason game against the A’s is cancelled.

Economic impacts are starting. This all strikes me as panicked insanity.

How are you all impacted?

What a difference a week makes.

East Bay Regional Parks are planning to stay open, but the bathrooms are apparently going to be locked... This could get ugly.

I’m a building inspector and to me the order seemed clear; the only construction work allowed to continue is low income housing, homeless shelters, public works projects, and emergency work (a resident without electricity, gas, heat, water, and etc.).

So on Monday I set everything so I could be notified at home of any emergencies. On Tuesday I get an email from our town manager forwarding an interpretation from the County council saying that all construction is essential, and all cities should consider providing services like normal.

So I go in to work charge and everything back to normal procedure.

Today I get another email from our town manager with clarification from the health department stating that only construction of homeless shelters, and emergency  work should be taking place NO REMODELS or elective work.

So back to emergency projects only.

On the family side of things my wife is considered an essential worker so she is working full time in a Japanese fish market. My mother is 92 and in an assisted living facility where everyone is supposed to be evicted(closing site) by the end of the month. She only enjoys a few things anymore: family visits, all sports, and reading. Yesterday I was denied access, and all the sporting event are already gone. She is devastated, and she might pass just from the stress of all of this.

I need to get outdoors to reduce my stress level so I will be launching from Ferry Point this Friday. Predicted to be a sunny day with light winds.

Sorry to hear all that Mark, especially about your Mom.

I need to get out and relieve some stress as well. Been locked up at home over a week with projects around the house related to this unfortunate event.

I’m pretty sure if you look in one direction in at least one of your house bathrooms there’s this porcelain or fiberglass thing called a bathtub, it actually has running water as hot as your ass can handle... literally and figuratively. That’s what baffles my mind the most...... Out of toilet paper? WASH YOUR ASS LIKE AN ADULT PEOPLE!!!  :smt044
