I am a normally very upbeat cup half full kinda guy but this has me depressed to some degree.  So I started packing the Sprrinter Class B last night. Friday morning I am taking off for Death valley and points beyond (Ryholite) for 4-5 days of boondocking, night photography, drinking and social avoidance. I downloaded about 10 post apocalyptic movies from Netflix, and have plenty of Tequila and guns. Should be a spiritually uplifting journey. Not looking forward to turning on the news when I return......

Went to lunch at lost coast brewery today. Normally packed on Wednesday for the wing special.  There were only 6 tables including mine and plenty of space at the bar. Arsenal was playing and there’s usually a d other soccer crowd at the bar. Not today.

Went to school to pick up my kid at 3pm. Normally chaotic parking lot was half empty. Kid said lots of classmates absent today.

March Madness NCAA tournament playing to empty arenas.

I’d wonder what will happen tomorrow,  it we aren’t even through today yet.

I think this is the prequel to The Walking Dead

I’m a prof at SJSU and we’re going to be teaching all classes online thru at least the end of the month. I always record my lectures and post them online anyway, so I can manage. But it is eerie recording lectures with nobody around.

Now I just need to find a place with good fishing, no infected people, and a high speed internet connection...

FWIW, inwhat seems like a previous life (when I was in grad school) I worked on a few epidemiological modeling and simulation projects, and have maintained an interest in the topic ever since. If I had to guess, I’d bet that in this country, we’ll see a few relatively isolated outbreaks, and no major lockdown of entire cities. Here in Santa Clara county, for example, we’ve had a slow dribble of new cases, not the exponential growth that everybody feared, at least so far. That’s a good sign.

IMHO, the one huge mistake that is being made is that they don’t tell us anything about new cases—like, where they traveled and when. The claim is that it’s a privacy issue, but I don’t see it. The countries that have been most successful in preventing/containing it are, it seems to me. South Korea and Taiwan, and both of them publish extensive details on each new case. We have much lower population density, so maybe we can get away with it, but it puts a lot more people at risk...

We should all just draw straws to ‘flatten the curve’. And, until it is our turn, we can maintain social distancing OTW!!!

I notice less traffic specially on weekends now coming into the bay which is good for my commute. The hospital in Daly City where I work is possibly closing soon unless they can somehow save it. So I guess when this whole thing blows up, I’ll be safe at home collecting unemployment

Let’s have a good winter thread.

I have a trip planned in April that may or may not happen. I have theater tickets that may or may not be good. I have to wipe my ass and it’s hard to find toilet paper for some stupid reason.

I’ve already dropped $8k on this trip, not sure how much I can recoup at this point if I ultimately can’t go.

The sharks are playing to an empty arena, Giants preseason game against the A’s is cancelled.

Economic impacts are starting. This all strikes me as panicked insanity.

How are you all impacted?

Hey man, you should come down to Mcovey cove and enjoy a few games. Although it won't be the same without the energy of 30,000 fans radiating from the stadium.

The Doctors my wife works for are a little more concerned than most people . Maybe they are over reacting as well ? Only time will tell. I am not worried myself at this point. My biggest concern at the moment is the economic impact and of course the people that have been affected health wise. I read that it does cause some type of fibrosis problem to your lungs if affected though. That doesn't sound to good.

Life goes on.

I will still be ready for the rockfish and salmon opener with friends !

Thissounds abut perfect haha.  Guns, desert, and pocolips movies.  I'd suggest a spot that has some fishing nearby though... Death Valley holds its own charms.

Good for you!

We've been ping-ponging all week in regards to our giant perch derby.  I'm determined to make it a go.  so far so good.  We will take some precautions like outside seating, shortened raffle, catered food, purell bottles, sani-wipes, and plenty of health Dept flyers posted "Go wash your hands, stupid!".  Just try to cut down the amount of time of event, and relieve crowding as much as possible.  And, hope the county doesn't outlaw gatherings over 50ppl before Saturday.
