I am going to paddle out to around the 200 ft range in Monterey of Del Monte on Thursday to play around with some dabs and flatfish. Figured I would drop a pot. Anyone in the area have a pot with a few 100 ft of line and a buoy I can borrow. If I get more than 2 crab I give you some. You can also come out and join us as well

I am not in Monterey, but I have line you can borrow if you come this way.
I have tried in 200ft to 260ft off Otter Cove, 3 hours soak, got a bunch of sand dabs in the traps.  :smt044

2400ft is a hell of a lot of line to pull up as well. I get tired after a few hundred feet!

I'm very curious to see how you do.

On a related note, has anyone had luck with rock crabs closer in?

Good to know. Sounds like it might be worth it to drop a pot or 2 while fishing.

So we had 3 traps. We dropped one at 50, 75, and 160. As some of you know to hit 160 off of del monte is a long paddle. We got tired of paddling so decided to drop at 160 since it was a few miles out. After a 4 hr trap 3 at 160 had 1 small rock crab, trap 2 at 75 had 5 big rock crab and 2 small ones. Trap 1 at 50 had 6 rock crab mostly small ones. No dungies. On a lighter note we did catch a small Cali hali at 180 ft. Glad we only dropped to 160 because that was a pain to pull up from a yak.

Thanks for the report. I really like rock crab so I'm going to drop some pots on my way the next time I got out down there. It's always a nice bonus to get some crabs after fishing.
