During our recent lobster hoop netting trips, both my wife and I got very tired from pedaling 8-12 miles, specially the returning leg.
We had to stop many times to rest.  Based on my search of this board, I am going to try to raise my seat and increase current Mirage Drive stroke length from 5 to 6.  Hope this increase my pedaling efficiency.  If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

In addition, I have been searching for power assisted option.  One options I am interested is Bixpy Jet https://electricsurfsports.com/shop/bixpy-jet-hobie-miragedrive/
https://bixpy.com/bixpy-outboard-kit-for-kayaks/
This jet is still new and not too many reviews.  If anyone of you are experienced with Bixpy Jet, hope you can share your experience.

That's enormous amount of money for a "new" product which probably won't last in saltwater because nothing ever does and most likely does not have the battery life you need for 8-12 miles.  Torqeedo is a somewhat proven product, still SUPER expensive, but even then I'm not sure they have the capacity for 8-12 miles at full speed

I don't expect to just rely on Bixpy Jet.  I will be still pedaling and hope I can get to the destination faster and easier.
Still searching for an extensive test review.

You dont want to rely on that speed and battery usage chart.  That was done under specific circumstances and I would bet my whole year salary that the number won't perform the same as your cicrumstances will be different.

The biggest complain for all electric motor is that it is limited to amount of battery charge.  You can supplement with additional battery.  Keep in mind once the battery is out, it will become a dumb load.  But I think for your circumstances, using it as a supplement is good.  The only way to know is just to test it.

Just be careful about your range.  It is easy to go longer out during your outbound trip (since you are still in top condition and it is so convenient and nice).  You always have to remember the power is to be used for both outbound and inbound.
I know you are looking for a Bixpy review, so my apology that I didn't quite address your question.  There's been a number of comparison reviews between Bixpy and Torqeedo.   I haven't seen longetivity review yet, but on the surface, the Bixpy seems to be cheaper for the amount of power that you're getting.  There is a youtube review on Bixpy vs Torqeedo by a Torqeedo employee (a kayaker), take a look at that.  His points are very valid.  The Torqeedo is very torquey, but the Bixpy is cheaper with more power out of the box.
If you are looking for absolute speed and range, you should go with a small outboard motor.

Good luck.

Good l

You made very good points.  I will more lively to save the battery for the return trip.
I watched most of Bixpy Youtube videos including the Torqeedo comparison.  All the reviews were initial reviews only and no extensive use reviews.

I typically ride my road bike 50-100 miles per week and during the winter months attend spin classes.
14 mile kayak trip on Oasis felt longer than a century bike ride.  My wife only weight 110 lbs and she been pedaling hard most of time.

The distant/time looks short. I would be doing the Minn Kota, Torqueto with a big Lithium battery if I were you.
Or go with a small gas outboard like the Suzuki 2.5hp.

This.  Go with the Suzuki 2.5hp.  At the end of the day, you want everything to work, so this is the way to go by a long shot.

Spend some time on the Hobie forum and you’ll see that a lot of people agree that a small gas outboard is the way to go.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Thank you
Since I already own a 12ft Zodiac, I didn't consider a gas outboard.
I will review Hobie forum before I make a decision.

Gas Outboard Hobie Mirage Tandem Island Kayaks but not sure about installing on Oasis kayak.
It will be an unbalanced loading condition and kayak might be rotating due to approximately 60 foot-pound of torque.

Anyone tried installing outboard on other that TI?

If I were looking to add one, I'd add it in a way that preserves the peddle drive.  The peddles work great as a keel for any cross wind and you can assist the motor with your own peddling.  Besides, if you disguise it well, people will think you are a monster at peddling!
I'd only use it when I got tired peddling, conserving it as my 'spare'.

Have you looked into the Hobie trolling motor mod using the cassette plug? Google watersnake hobie and you’ll see lots of ideas. Heck they even sell a premade one on Amazon now :-)
