once you go outboard you never go back lol

Gas Outboard Hobie Mirage Tandem Island Kayaks but not sure about installing on Oasis kayak.
It will be an unbalanced loading condition and kayak might be rotating due to approximately 60 foot-pound of torque.

Anyone tried installing outboard on other that TI?

i have it installed on my hobie outback....i call it outback AI lol

this is what I did to my outback

Before going this route, I did the watersnake mod however the battery and the torque from it doesn't last long. Its great for the lakes but for the ocean...not good! If going against current or wind...its useless. Now I have the motor and still pedal if I need to which is great. Like other have suggested...if you can mount it to the back or side and still be able to use your mirage drive is what I would recommend.

by the way, take me lobster hooping :) I'll tow you guys out there lol

Technically, I think adding a motor requires the craft to be registered and have the hull numbers assigned.  This is taken care of at the DMV.  I only mention it because if a warden stops to check you out, he or she is sure to notice.

If you’re going electric I prefer to stay away from the batteries that are part of the motor. If you ever want a replacement or a second one you only have one place to buy it, assuming they’re still in business. When buying a simple lithium battery you can get it where you want and if you ever want another one you can buy that one wherever you want. Then you’re not stuck paying a premium or just plain stuck because they went out of business. I put a watersnake on the side of my Tarpon 120 and two 20ah lithium batteries last around 12 hours trolling. I got 8 hours on the water crabbing and using higher speeds going between hoop traps all day. I don’t know how much juice was left, but I put in a full day of crabbing. There are advantages and disadvantages to electric and gas. I imagine the electric is quieter and doesn’t smell from exhaust. Being able to recharge your “battery” by pouring in some gas is a big advantage.

PS: I wouldn’t say technically. Motorized kayak have to be registered. Plus they want you to pay sales tax when you register it.  :smt009

it was a hassle but you can get it at any hobie dealership. I got it at CCK. Make sure you get it local since shipping is expensive!! and expect a timeframe of 4-6 weeks!!!!

I concur on the boat having to be register. It took me 3 hrs at dmv :( but i'm all legal lol

That’s crazy cool! Add a second ama and a big sail and you’ll be unstoppable...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I have owned my Torqeedo since 09   The only thing I don't like about it is the awkward controller mounting.
When Bixpy came out with their unit I was invited to San Diego to test it out with the designer.       Between the two drives, the Torqeedo has way more power and speed.  Hands down, no comparison!   However. The Bixpy has several  advantages.   Wireless wrist controller is my favorite  PLUS a second battery is  only half the  price of Torqeedo's..   Additionally you could also run your FF off that same battery.   Better mounting options come with the Bixpy...
Both motors have the same "whine" noise.. the only way around that is with a MinnKota or some other like the Watersnake.     I'd suggest spending the dollars on a good lithium battery...not the heavy lead type.

To use it for long hauls like you mentioned, you'd be better off mounting the Bixpy at the back end, rather than in the drive well.   That way you could pedal at a much easier pace with the  motor pushing as an assist.    That extends my Torqeedo range to somewhere around 30 miles according to the onboard calculator. " Moto assist"    I figure it's like riding an electric  bike on the road, don't need registration for those.. If you have a paddle in your hand ( or pedalling )  you like "Human Powered",     I can't imagine a law enforcement citing you for not having registration.. Never had any challenges in 10 years passing thru harbors...

Thank you for your detail response.
For my Oasis tandem I would like to install Bixpy in drive well and  for Rev. 13 at the rear. rudder.  This way I can always pedal/human power as primary power.  I was considering purchasing two mounting options to accommodate my situation.  I searched website for Bixby battery range test but I didn't find any.  Also, I am waiting for some extended use reviews.  Most of reviews on websites are initial use or installation related issue.   Compare to  Torqeedo 403 (Approx. 1 hp Equivalent), how much power do you think Bixpy Jet has?

Paul Can't really comment  about the power level or range of Bixpy.  I only used it once during the prototype stage for a short while on a lake.   Like any electric motor,, the more power you use the shorter your range.
Example;   without paddling,   using the Torqeedo at mid range I'd get at best 6 mile range estimate.  If I paddle with,, easily quadruple the range...
IMHO  Bixpy seems very well made.  The new owners of Santa Cruz Kayaks have been using / testing this for over a year now... They're also a dealer for that motor.  If I were purchasing, between the two, I would go for the Bixpy.     ( I have no affiliation or interest  in either..  just offering my two cents worth)

Thank you for your recommendation.
I have been discussing with one of dealer and decided to wait for the next sales event.

Hope I can meet you out in the ocean next season.

2 things: A) The absence of end user reviews is concerning. That means they haven’t sold many units and don’t have much of a track record. If you buy one, you’ll be the “bleeding edge.”  B) About that Oasis, duh, buy a faster more efficient hull and the problems will go away! The inefficient hull is the problem, so solve that.
