While I see a shout out to UglyStik/Shimano thread.

I thought I want to share about Lamiglas. Suck. Stay away, be warned. Warranty is a joke.
I snapped the rod while fighting the salmon. I got the fish though.

They used to have an awesome no questions asked in store exchange warranty. That changed a while ago, and yes there warranty now sucks.

Do they tend to break easily or frequently? Was that the force behind the warranty change?

Chet told me it would cost about 45 dollars to potentially replace his 99 dollar rod. Ouch.
The best warranty "was' the lifetime shimano one before people abused it, then it was replaced with a one year
limited warranty. I've got 4 shimano rods that have yet to fail me...well except for the tip that moves from time to time but that is just wear and tear. Best product for the price IMHO.

$45 for a $99 rod doesn't sound bad to me.

Actually that would be a $144 rod as he already paid the $99 bucks on the stick that broke. Or take the suggestion of just replacing the tip -- it won't be as sensitive as before but still fishable.

You're mixing two experiences. The tip is loose on one; the rod snapped on the other.

Chet - Sorry to hear your rod broke. That sucks.

But... I can't help but think that if the rod were defective, it would have broken long before now. How long have you had that rod, and how many salmon have you already caught with it?

I think $45 bucks to replace a rod that was likely nicked or dinged at some point is a killer deal.

Search the web for "best trolling rod for salmon" and you'll see a lot of people who swear by their Lamiglas Classic Glass rods (I'm one of them).

If you don't want a brand new Classic Glass for $45, I'd be glad to buy it off you!

That original $99 bucks wasn't buying you a lifetime supply of rods. It was buying you one rod with a warrantee against manufacturers defects.

Is it $45 plus shipping, or does that include shipping?  I once had a warrantee replacement.  It cost about that much and was applied wholly towards shipping.

I disagree.  Just got off the phone in fact with wnnty dept at Lami, coincidentally.  The reel seat on my X11 was twisting on the blank.

Im under the gun. need that rod for a trip next week, so I arranged to send pictures instead of the rod itself.

(My previous x-11 had snapped. This was a replacement.  I sent the rod segment with model #'s and they replaced for $45.  Good deal I think)

this time I just sent these pix.  1  reel seat
2.model #
Snapped rod (god I hate that sound!)

Oh, and since I was on the phone I asked about maybe a deal on a little heavier rod.  Got a redline 94mhs for 1/2 price- $90.00.  Just for asking.

they are sending me two brand new rods.  The light one that was under warranty for the reel seat- no charge, and the medium one I bought.  All for 111$ including shipping.

That be good service in my book!!!!

PLUS.....These rods work really well and are really sensitive, especially with braid.  I can use the 94 mhs for perch or striper off the beach and the x11 9'6" is my go-to BSP rod, throwing 3/4 ounce or 9/16oz.  Either will work for side drifting and float fishing.  the Redline should be equal to silver salmon while the x-11 has caught trout steelhead and a few silvers as well.

Lamiglas is awesome!

I bought this rod in April 2017.
I offered to send a million photos for them to determine whether it would cover under warranty to save some money.
They want to see the rod. It would cost $20-$25 to ship them, if it's manufacture defect it would cost me another $25 for return shipping.
$45-$50 on my end if its manufacture defect. The rod only cost $99.
If it's found to be not manufacture defect, I am out shipping cost plus $25 to get back my broken rod.

IMO, if it's manufacture defect they should cover the return shipping cost. It is just wrong to have customer pay for something defective.

Fenwick or ugly Stik for me. Companies have always came thru no questions asked. Even on a rod I told Fenwick I did not purchase brand new from a store

What exactly were you doing when the rod broke? Did the rod itself touch a hard surface or corner while under heavy load? That's a sure fire way to break a rod. (This often happens when a fish runs under the boat and the rod touches down on the gunwale.)

I remembered fighting the fish, it ran hard trying to pull line(I set the drag high that day). I netted this fish as usual. Then saw it was snapped. I did not see the moment it snapped though, however I did not knock into anything as I remembered.
