That's the main reason Trump won.

Ok I was only gonna talk about turtles, but I think maybe its time to talk about why trump won.

He's better at reality TV.  Like, really good at it.  And thats all this election was.  Who was going to get the ring/stay on the island/etc. - he and his team played it like it was a reality TV show and won.  They flipped Pennsylvania.  They flipped Wisconsin.  They played the whole game like they knew that they had to do that and focused on it.  They have inside information from reality TV voting demographics, statistics, trends, etc. and they used it.

This was a game, they had inside information, and figured out how to use it.   The other republicans and the democrats are playing the old way.  That proved to be suboptimal.

Sure Trump played to his strong suit.  So did the whole DNC.  Now THERE'S a crew that knew how to win elections.  They won with Obama, a nobody that had zero info even on his education, passport, birth certificate when he ran.
They OWN the press.  When the fear mongering were describing potential Trump riots if he lost as 'protests' when the dems lost, THAT is slanted press.  When is a riot a protest?  When it's republican compared to a democrat.  That's how the press paints the picture.  The press tried everything they could to smear Trump.  He saw it with Sarah Palin.  So, he played their game; if he was described as a racist, he'd say he ran the KKK.  He was so outrageous that it was obvious to anyone, he was playing them.  How could the press and the Dems NOT see this??!!  They expected a discussion on immigration.  Trump was going to build a wall!   They expected discussion on religion, Trump was going to ban Muzlums.  (sic)
I couldn't believe that the press and the establishment politicians were even giving him air time, let alone that what he was saying held any credibility.  That is when I fell in love with him.  He mocked them.  Mocked them all and none of them had a clue on how to manage the incorrigible Donald.  I loved every minute of it.  The name calling; 'despicable' was the best.  That those who vote for Trump are too stupid to vote at all, but if you are on government tit, well then you BETTER vote or loose your nipple!!  Ha!
Well, who's stupid now?

That they did his bidding and played the stooge is pretty funny, that's for sure.  He DOMINATED tv coverage throughout the primary.  For free.  That's skill.  It's stright out of the reality TV playbook too.

I'm less concerned about what Trump has said than what Hillary has done.

If you believe Trump's words, then what does that say about Trump?  He's at least honest?

Can you believe Hillary?  Most polls say no.

You might not like what Trump said, but, he's not being paid by the lobbyists, establishment parties or the special interests.  What Trump says is what Trump thinks and that can be changed.

But Hillary... she's bought and paid for.  She'll sell her opinion to the highest bidder.  Not only do you not know what she thinks, she is obliged to never be able to change what she says she thinks on policies.

That's the main reason Trump won.  At least with him, there's a chance he will do the will of the people over that of the lobbys, special interests and party affiliation.
Do you believe Trump when he says he's pro-life, or pro-choice?

Do you believe Trump when he says women should be punished for seeking abortions or when he says they shouldn't?

Do you believe Trump when he praises the Clintons (and the Democratic Party as a whole), or when he denounces them as "crooked"?

Do you believe Trump when he says he was for the war in Iraq or against it?

Do you believe Trump when he said he donated to veterans, or do you believe the written records that prove that he had not?

Do you believe Trump when he says that he hasn't used Foundation funds for private matters, or do you believe the records that prove he has?

Do you believe Trump when he says he respects women, or when he says he does not?

Do you believe Trump when he says he doesn't molest women, or when he says he does?

Do you believe Trump when he says he's going to build a wall, or when he backtracks?

I could go on and on and on and on and on and on.......

Hillary lied about some emails. Trump lies just about every time he opens his mouth....

Don't get me wrong. I am not a big fan of Hillary Clinton.... But come on now... You really think Trump is more honest?!?

Once upon a time Trump said he was against lobbyists. Now he is filling his cabinet with them...

This gets to the root of what worries me about Trump... I don't know which of his words to believe. He's a walking talking contradiction of himself.

You can't believe any words or campaign promises from anybody.

At least no one promised to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay this time around.

If you look back at this countries long political history, you'll see that most of our presidents (both democrat and republican) have at least TRIED to fulfill their campaign promises. Do they always succeed? Of course not. Our constitution has an elaborate system of checks and balances built into it, even if you ignore the downright obstructionist behavior that both parties have engaged in from time to time.

I'm not naive enough to believe that a newly elected president will actually achieve everything they promise during their campaign, but history tells me they're at least gonna TRY.

Trump has not made his policies clear. He has flip-flopped repeatedly, and fumbled his way through policy discussions with a blatantly clear lack of understanding. I don't know what he will try to do, and that worries me. Should I believe him when he's at a rally shouting about "YUGE!" tax breaks for the working class? Or should I believe his actual written tax plan the includes "YUGE!" tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and actually increases taxes on the middle class in many cases?

THAT is my point. I have no fuckin' clue which rendition of Trump will show up in the Oval Office now that the campaign reality show is over, and that worries me...

I don't disagree.  I don't think that was important to get elected either.  And I don't think it will factor in re-election.  Voters have short memories and we all suffer from recency bias.

The game has changed.  Trump is very good at it.

Jerry, based on our PMs and your posts, I have alot of respect for your thoroughness.  Your thorough research and analysis into anything you have an interest in awesome.  I don't respect you any less for voting for Trump.  I have some good friends that also voted for Trump.  Our friendships have not changed.

That being said...

Oh I'm very concerned with Trump's words, especially now that he's won the election.  Here's why.  I'm a minority.  What he said about the wall, funny.  What he said about banning Muslims, just plain dumb.  What he's said about Mexicans and other minorities...has allowed a segment of his voters (the bigots) to act out probably because they feel he endorses their views.  Social media has shown a spike in racially motivated incidences.  What do I tell my kids about possible encounters with these bigots?  Run?  Stand up to bullies and face the consequences?

addendum:  I want to make clear that these questions I pose are not directed at Jerry or any one in particular.  I don't want it to appear that my concerns are because of who he (or anyone) voted for.

I'm simply using this very civil discussion to offer my perspective.

How have you taught them to deal with bullies in the past?  Go with that.

I hear a lot of anecdotal stories that racial and gender harassment of children in schools spiked this week after the election, and enough of it is from people that I believe would not make it up.

I don't expect that it will continue at that level, but kids can be assholes and it doesn't take much to push them one way or another.  Let's see how it pans out.

As for my daughters, they have standing permission to stand up to bullies up to and including bloodying them up.  Getting suspended this week just means that they get to go turkey hunting.

I don't pretend to know what it is like to get bullied for my gender or race, especially in my hometown.  I don't wish that on anyone.
