If you don't get any help here, try the search. That's not my area so I can't help. I did find this though.

My understanding is that they are generally deep from SC.  Try HMB for closer/shallower crab.

Thanks for info everyone.

My problem however is that my window of opportunity is this Saturday morning and swell info is showing bad conditions out at Half Moon Bay. Swell info is showing very favorable conditions in Santa Cruz that morning.

Did you try the search function? A window of flat water by itself doesn't mean it's a good idea to crab there. How deep can you crab on your kayak?

I could go 100 feet.

Yes I checked the link, Thanks!

Half Moon Bay would be the best place to crab, but wind is predicted to be 9 to 15mph with a 6 1/2 foot swell this Saturday AM.

My link was just one I found on top. Try more searches and check more of the results. You may find more info than the one I linked to.

If you are after rock crabs then SC can be OK. Dungeness are too deep though some day I plan to do some experimenting when I have access to a PB.

I would use several sources for your swellinfo.. I've found them to be not too accurate....  conditions are sometime better than the forcast states..plus they change as the week goes on, so cant really decide till its time to go..

I thought I read somewhere on this site that they had lifted the ban on Rockies in this area. Couldn't tell you which thread.

OK. So it says rock crab is closed on the website for fish and wildlife but if you call the Domoic Acid Fishery Closure Information Line (which they run) it says that as of May 19th that rock crab has been opened from Sand Hill Bluff in Santa Cruz and south to the Mexican border. You can call this number (831) 649-2883 for the latest status of the rock crab, dungeness and razor clam season.

Fish Flogger, sounds like rock crab is open in Santa Cruz. With that in mind what is the easiest kayak launch in Santa Cruz and where are good areas to crab. Dungeness crab are great but I love rock crab too. Swell infor looks ten times better for Santa Cruz this Saturday. Anyone up for a Crab Fest?

Just go fishing then buy live crab in the harbor when you're done.
