Hey guys- I am going to try renting some fishing kayaks with 2 buddies and try for some rockfish/lings in Monterey Bay this Saturday.  Any specific areas that are recommended to have some fun/action?  I plan on getting there at 8 am if anyone is interested in meeting up.  Looking forward to either seeing some of you on Saturday or posting some pics of the day.

I would recommend Monterey Bay Kayak by Fishermans Wharf. Parking is $10 and $33 per person per single kayak. Kayaks are right there at the beach, no car topping, wetsuit provided, life jacket provide, paddle jackets provided and water entry is easy. Their rental policy does limit you in terms of where you can go. It's basically from MBK to MB Aquarium. I usually fish the kelp in front of Cannery Row. I also like the area just in front of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I have caught an assortment of rockfish, cabezon and lings there. Have fun!

The LBCrew will be at Pacific Grove on Saturday. We are usually on the water by 8am. Easiest launch on the planet. I am in a red Native Redfish, Jon is in a Hobie, 00sickness is in a yellow Ocean Kayak and if Henery makes it he will be in a Blue Ascend. Hope to see you out there!

here's a map we made for the MBK Derby.  Coral Street/Lovers Point is above the "fishing over here" text, and the "possible fishing here" spot is marked with two yellow oildrum buoys.  the oildrum buoy area has been better this spring, both outside and inside the buoys from 40 out to 80 FOW.

Best bet is hook up with some of the loc's above and follow them like a little duckliing to get on some fish!

Do you park, unload and load from coral street?  Is this a launch that I could do solo or do I need someone to help get the kayak through stairs or an obstacle.?  im hoping I can get away and join this Sunday.

You can do it solo.  It helps if you grunt.

Yeah, it can be done solo. Just as long as the parking along that stretch isnt taken up! The rock wall is about 3' at its shortest, about 5' at its tallest.

I believe the prefered maneuver is called "man up" jk. I have seen some guys use a floor mat to slide the yak over the wall. It's best to have a buddy, just make sure to give them the heavy end.
I only fish on days that end with Y

Would lovers cove be easier?  Looks like no walls to go over. Trying to avoid manning up grunts if possible. Ha ha.

I'm also looking into a close by hotel so I can avoid a long morning drive. Anyone have any recommendations?  I see a hotel next to lovers cove. Does anyone know if I can just roll from the hotel to launch?

I should've been more clear. The wall is a step down, not over.  It's literally a drop off.
