I have the Wheeleez cart.  I like strapping it on the kayak and not having to walk it back to the car.  But its huge and takes up lots of room on the yak.  The big wheels don’t really fit in the hatches.  So, I’ve been thinking about imaginative and potentially stupid things to do with the Wheeleez cart and wheels.

Here is my list so far:
1)   Lock the cart to something on the land.

2)   Use the wheels as expensive crab pot or anchor floats.

3)   Place a short mast in the Hobie mast hole and place the wheels on this to keep them out of the way.    This could have the added safety benefit of making the yak easier to flip over (in one direction anyway) for self-recovery.

4)   Make an outrigger that uses the wheels as floats.

I’m reasonably sure that other folks have already thought of this, or tried it, so please tell me which of these ideas are incredibly stupid.  Or, add another stupid idea to the list.

#1 is my method of choice unless the car is nearby. I picked up a 15 ft bike lock type cable from Home Depot for cheap... The extra length is helpful if you need to lock your wheels to a boulder, big tree, whatever.

Even at places that require a long walk...I have never regretted stashing my wheeleez in the car. But I have regretted bringing them with me OTW a few times.

At Shelter Cove I lock mine to the guard rail.
I use a Cobra lock and take the wheels off the cart.
The lock will go through the wheels and through the hitch pins.
Haven't had any problems this way.
I've also ditched them in the bushes, but that was in the middle of no mans land.

for me the wheels are are part of the yak, so I almost always take them with me
the big beach wheels still both fit in the hatch of my tarpon, and i strap the frame down along the right side of the tankwell. i chose the right side as i tend to want to sling clipped fish into the tankwell by turning to my left, so i wanted that side of the well clear.
