Here's a brief intro on the 2016 Lowrance HOOK Series
http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/HOOK/

I'll be working on a detailed report once I get my hands on one...  Coming Soon

HOOK™ fishfinders and chartplotter/fishfinder combos
For Any Angler, Anywhere… we introduce the HOOK™ series of fishfinders, chartplotters and combos.

Available in 3-9" Models

HOOK models represent a radical approach to the basics. No gimmicks. No skimping or shortcuts. Just the basics the way they were meant to be: reliable, well-made and perfectly suited to your lifestyle. All at a price that's honest and makes good sense.

The essential features from our legendary leadership in marine electronics are built in to every HOOK model. The brightest displays, the easiest-to-use interface, the quick-release bracket and multiple mounting options, as well as CHIRP sonar for the best target separation and minimal clutter.

so what's the practical difference between these and the current elite series? It seems to be the same.

I'm awaiting clarification but my belief is that it was a move to separate the new Elite Ti Series from the existing Elite Series by re-branding all the current Elite Series units, with new graphics, as a HOOK series; at the lower MSRP pricepoint that happened back in mid-October.

If I find out something/anything to contrary, I'll edit/update the post accordingly.

Marketing. Lol. I love lowrance products but do I really need to see the same bait ball 3 differnet ways. :smt044

Unless there is a significant tech change Its gonna be hard to justify getting a new ff. This is the same problem gopro is facing. Maybe a form factor change will inspire sales?? I'll wait to see how the hook series play out. :smt001

I'm waiting to see if that results in a further price drop on a Elite 7 Chirp!  $350?  :smt003

How do you put a Elite 7 on a yak Ben? lol. I bought the elite 5 and have a hard time with the deck space on my Revo.

I have the Elite 7 HDI on a Hobie AI.  Hangs nicely on a ram arm on the left side.

I use my HDS-7 on my yak, no issues.  Not on my deck or in my way.  Mounted on my front track of my SP10/13 and easily removable every trip.  Would probably dislike it if I had to hard mount it or use one of the new larger transducers that won't fit through my scupper hole.

The larger transducer body size makes it harder for kayakers, based on current kayak models, to unleash the full features of the newest units; such as StructureScan/TotalScan based on the 11" transducer length which is needed to achieve the wide array pattern.  We ARE seeing the manufacturers starting to follow the FF brands for better transducer adaptability, however.

So, the old Elite series is going to be called Hook. They will cost less. And they're all running CHIRP. Sounds good to me.

Almost sounds too good to be true.

Based on the info I have received as of last night, it's a new name for the existing Elite CHIRP Series ... Now called HOOK Series.  For those looking for a little more from your unit, check out the NEW Elite Ti Series.
