Hi I am new to all this DSI/HDI stuff with the Elite series now we have the Hook series. So I own a Elite 4 HDI and I read the manual (no I really read the manual) and it talks a lot about DSI and its transducer as being able to do 455khz and 800khz. Now can I use my elite 4 transducer with the Hook 4 and get all the capabilities of the new Chirp on the Hook 4?

The short answer is no.  It needs the 83/200/455/800 transducer it is sold with to work in all functions.

The transducer I have is a:
Lowrance HDI Skimmer 83/200 455/800 T/M Transducer 000-10976-01
It should work right?

Yes, that one will unlock all the possibilities if the HOOK series starting at the 4 & larger.

Just installed the Hook-4x with 455/800 kHz with Downscan on the PB. For 200.00 it packs one hell of a punch. Lots of features loaded into one small unit. Graphing sturgeon is a breeze in standard sonar view; slapping on the dual view with DSI really helps in deciphering what's down there.

That's awesome. You're going to really like that DSI for Delta type locations. Mike

Ok I have a question to anybody that knows!

I was notified after I ordered my Elite 4 chirp that it was discontinued...after I received my 1"RAM mounts and geartrack. Do you know if the fitting on the rear of the elite matches the new hook series? Do I need as different ram fitting??

Thanks in advance!

Actually,  I do have a follow up question!

Now that I'm ordering a new unit, I've seen the chirp 5 on sale for the same price (300).

Should I go with the larger screen or go with the newer "hook" series and stay with the 4 series? Transducer is the same right? It takes a 1.5" RAM mount instead of the 1" right?

Sorry for the question overload!!

Elite 5 chirp or hook unit is the way to go... Same unit (same same,,,) different paint only case etc all same. Too late for the rebate (3-7-16 was the end date...) But they are the same....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I was about to push "order now" on the older chirp 5 until I read it didn't have GPS. No chart plotter. I thought the elite chirp models had GPS. So confusing.

From what I've been able to find, the elite or hook 5 with GPS will run me $500?

If it's an elite 5X it doesn't have gps. The "X" in the model number indicates sonar only.
