OK guys getting closer!! Here is some important intel:

Attached is the Parking pass: Please put this on your dash if you plan to park in the upper lot. Please USE this lot and keep the Campground road clear of cars, especially of Saturday morning. This lot will be marked with cones, signage and tape. Park in an orderly fashion, do not block anyone in.

The process: If you have never been to Anchor Bay Campground please use this map to help you. If you are arriving the morning of please do this: Make sue all your gear is ready for a quick drop off at the beach. You can park at the top lot and get this stuff ready. Drive down into the campground to the far end cul-de-sac and drop off your gear. Quickly get your boat and gear to the beach. Either myself or someone will have a volunteer down on the beach to help you unload and with parking/ drop off and issues. Drive back up to the top lot to park. Walk North through the lot towards the bench and down the trail to AB office. Make sure to bring a headlamp, this skinny trail is NOT lit and could be dangerous going without proper lighting. Pay the $5 launch fee at the AB office and head down to the beach. Here we'll have a table setup and a pretty girl will be waiting for you with coffee and doughnuts. Check-in, hand in your signed waiver and get a wristband. Now that you're all checked in, head down to chicken cove waiting for the horn... shotgun start.

I will have a safety meeting at 5pm on Friday night
. I will be handing out the 40 first pre-reg bags, discussing the forecast, required safety gear, launch and landing and answering any questions you might have.

PLEASE look at the forecast and predetermine your skill set before launching and landing from the beach into possible large swells. Give yourself plenty of time to get back in for check-in. Understand your limitations and listen to your head! Our club is composed of many different types of kayakers with many different skill sets. Just because you see a kayaker launch from the beach but you may feel a little uneasy, listen to your head and make the right choices. Don't put yourself and others at risk because "you thought" you could make it. The ocean is unforgiving and she will take you any chance she gets.

Tide Chart for this coming weekend.  Notice the BIG tide drop starting a half before noon.  You'll be bucking this big tide shift coming in so keep that in mind with your paddle out.

I second what Mike is saying.

Please know your ability and skill level. There will more than likely be quite a few who launch but it's a big fishing ground so you may not have anyone right next to you to help you out. Make sure you know you know how to self rescue for your own safety and the others around you.

With all that said lets get here already damnit.

Yes. The tide will be up around noon. If you do come in around the high tide, take your time getting around the rocky corner, it can be challenging with a fully loaded kayak and big surf.  I don't know how the corner will look with this tide but I've had to negotiate it many times in the past with big tides to get back to the campground.

If anyone would like to go out in the bay Friday afternoon to practice self rescue let me know before Thursday and I will gladly go out and work with you. If you don't let me know by Thursday before I leave I will be partaking in an ice cold beverage after getting off the water Friday and won't be going back out.

For those who have not launched at Anchor Bay, may I suggest strongly you do NOT launch directly into the surf in front of the campground boat ramp. Likewise for landing. Allow twenty minutes each way, depending on tide. If you come in at a high tide, you cannot safely get around the rocks from Chicken Cove to the main beach. I have been "selling tickets and beer" here for years to folks who show up to watch anytime somebody tries that!  It is a 1/2 mile or less haul up the beach to Chicken Cove where the surf is usually measured in inches. Note "usually." If weather is coming from the South, I'm going to drink coffee and watch.
Warning! Retiree; Knows it all and has plenty of time to tell you about it.

This is no lie, got my ass handed to me trying to round the rocks with just two feet of water in December last year. Of course there was 3 feet less of sand due to a big storm just prior to getting there. Be careful !!!, So how long after high tide is it safe to get around the rocks ?
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

+1 This is my first ocean trip.  I was planning on stripping all the junk off of my kayak and going out to practice handling and self rescue. It would be awesome if I could join you.
I should be arriving around 9-10 am Friday morning.
