This is my first tournament and first time to AB.  Do people partner up for safety?  Are there any other newbies that aren't "in it to win it"?  I can self rescue.  I have a PFD, VHF, GPS, compass, flashlight, change of dry clothes, whistle.....ect.  I have read up and feel prepared, however she's a cold unforgiving bitch and I don't feel confident enough to go alone.

I would like to partner up during the tournament as well.  I'm there for fun, and to gain some knowledge. If I feel like it's too rough for me, I'll hold down the fort and help out around camp.

I just looked at the swell chart link,  13' waves?  I might be fishing for cold ones out of the cooler while surf fishing :smt009

I am not in it to win it either. I'm happy just having a new place to explore. Just talk to some people launching you will probably be welcomed to tag along with a group that isn't planning on working hard to win.

I'd offer to help but I'm new to the area too and just gonna hang around the launch until I find some familiar faces to chill with.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

Always looking for new people to fish with!

How does the surf landing compare to last year? The launch wasn't really an issue but coming in last year it looked a lot different from when I launched

With high tide around the time we land it will be bigger. But the wind and swell direction will make chicken cove not too bad. The issue is getting back to the main beach from chicken cove. Kayaks can be left up near the wall in chicken cove until the tide goes out enough to allow passage as well.

Anchor is fishable during rough conditions inside of fish rock. I've fished there quite a bit and you can catch some quality fish in that area.

Once you leave the protection of fish rock the true conditions of the ocean are realized.

Anyone up for some surf play either Friday afternoon or Sunday?

On the positive side, the sand is about as high as it gets, so the tide drop needed to get around the rocks isn't as big as it sometimes is. X the surf is constantly changing is all I can say, and I've been sitting here for five days. Saturday the whole place was a giant flat lake; I could have leaned over and shaved in the reflection. The storm brought up the swells/surf, but not huge, and I'm hoping that as the weather flattens out, the waves will too.  Nothing to do but wait and see what she gives us...

The guys from ElDorado S. O. Are here with little ones. They *might* get ticked off if one disappeared into a hole. Maybe Thursday night...

If anyone would like to go out in the bay Friday afternoon to practice self rescue let me know before Thursday and I will gladly go out and work with you. If you don't let me know by Thursday before I leave I will be partaking in an ice cold beverage after getting off the water Friday and won't be going back out.

I'm in for a practice/learning session. What time do you think you will be doing this?

Kinda depends. If the morning bite is hot I will be off the water quickly (not scouting just meet hunting) (I know where the fish are at anchor bay) but gonna get my dive gear on and go pop a couple abs and shoot a couple fish. After I get done doing that I will be out in the bay to help people learn and practice self ELF rescue. Probably around 1-3 need to be a little flexible.
