What could be done as well would be to have the committee (or me) automatically approve any "Original AOTY" fish (like we do for Youth AOTY/DOTY fish), and then if there is an issue with an entry it would be up to you OGs to determine if the committee needed to reject....that way the committee is not involved in anything except approving the fish...and the burden would be on the OGs to deal with any controversies?

I think we should create our own AOTY competition page, and get away from the syndicate that runs our current ones.  Those guys are crazy, especially that one diver guy that everyone hates but doesn't want to say it.

I wasn't here back then, and am not on the AOTY committee anymore, and don't know exactly which rules you would want back for an OAOTY comp (besides the original 10 species), but ass-u-me it has to do with picture taking requirements.

Here are the top three entries for each species in 2007...some amazing fish by some awesome anglers who I look up to and have a ton of respect for...but for sure if some of these pics were submitted in recent years many would have either not been approved or if they had been there would have been complaints about mouth open, pic not showing entire length, tape measure bent/crooked etc.

You guys let me know if you want me to help in anyway (asking bsteves for separate leaderboard, getting the registration $ to Piscean for plaque(s) etc)...otherwise I'll just stay out of it.

You volunteering? 

I love the idea of an easy going competition, however there have been individuals in the past who grief other competitors over there submissions. As far as I can tell, holding high photo standards has placed any conflict between competitor and committee instead of between competitors (which I think is preferable).

All it takes is for a FNG to get in the top 5 with some crappy pics of big fish, and the griefers will come out of the woodwork.

I dunno, is abandoning the hard rules worth it considering the likely result?  To my knowledge there haven't been as many AOTY inter-competitor beefs recently.
