Just reminiscing. ...

Who would be interested in an old fashioned AOTY? Same fish as originally sought from the original ten fish. You would have to enter the 2016 AOTY to qualify/donate to the cause, but you are only competing with the original 10. Same points as the original competition.

No prizes. .no committee involvement...  unless your fish doesn't  qualify. I think this would be entertaining.

I'd  be willing to ask/pay Sean to make plaques if He is willing ?

Just a thought. ....

Off thr top of my head i remember
Salmon
Steelhead
Sturgeon
Lmb
Smb
Striper
Cab
Halibut
Ling
Rockfish

This could all be done inside the existing AOTY without involving the committee. I would just need to calculate any  fish  that had a point per inch change since then.

Or we could  just skip the whole idea. I was feeling a little melancholy yesterday due to my little injury ...no fishing, kayaking, bow hunting, etc for at least the rest of the year. ..booo

Sorry to hear of that status, O2B. Take the needed (prescribed?) time to heal well, a set-back is not worth it, DAMHIK.

You were close  :smt001
Folks just went after Steelhead as it was big points in a little fish slot.

While I wouldn't participate again, I like this idea.  A throwback to what I still view as the real AOTY.

I think its a cool idea Allen!

People would still enter their fish in the AOTY page though right? Assuming that is the case, what we could do is ask and see if bsteves is able to create an "Original AOTY" leaderboard similar to the Sail and Youth leader boards that we already have...

If the fish are entered on the AOTY page, the committee would still need to "verify" or "reject" the entries (just the way the software is set up), but I don't think that would be a big deal...

The one issue (as you pointed out) would be that point values for some of the original species may have changed since the "olden days"  :smt002....I can't think of any way around that, but at least you all would be playing with the same point scale and same fish?

As far as Piscean Plaques go...I handle all the AOTY/DOTY registration fees via the PIF PayPal and work with Sean to get the AOTY and DOTY plaques and would be happy to use the extra $ generated via "OriGinal AOTY" to work with him to get prize plaques....I enjoy meeting with him to have a few beers and get the plaques so really no big deal at all for me...of course it would all depend on Sean's schedule and if he was able to take on additional work etc.  :smt004

Anyway, let me know what you think about the above and if you want me to reach out to bsteves etc.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

What could be done as well would be to have the committee (or me) automatically approve any "Original AOTY" fish (like we do for Youth AOTY/DOTY fish), and then if there is an issue with an entry it would be up to you OGs to determine if the committee needed to reject....that way the committee is not involved in anything except approving the fish...and the burden would be on the OGs to deal with any controversies?

Just a thought...

Jim
